Activity 2
Aim: To determine the properties of materials that can float or sink.
Wednesday 18th August 2021
Activity 3 (Textbook page 147)

conductor (can conduct electricity)

1. What are your observations for the activity?

Some objects can light up the bulb and some objects cannot.

2. What are the properties of materials tested in this activity?

The ability to conduct electricity (conductor) and cannot conduct
electricity (insulator).

3. Which of the tested objects can conduct electricity in this activity?

Key, coin, aluminium foil, pencil lead

Activity 4 (Textbook page 148)
Aim

√ opaque object (does not allow light to pass through it)

√ transparent object (allows all the light to pass through it)

√ transparent object (allows all the light to pass through it)

1. What are your observations for the activity?

Some objects can be seen clearly and some cannot.

2. What are the properties of materials tested in this activity?

Materials that allow light to pass through.

1. What are your observations for the activity?

Some objects/materials feel warm after being soaked in hot water.

2. What are the properties of materials tested in this activity?

Materials that can conduct heat.

3. Which objects are warm after being soaked in hot water?

Aluminium foil

√ made of elastic materials
√ made of elastic materials
√ made of non-elastic materials

1. What are your observations for the activity?

Some materials can be stretched and return to original shape and some
cannot.

2. What are the properties of materials tested in this activity?

Elasticity

3. What are the objects that can be stretched and returned to their original
shapes?
Balloon, Spring, Rubber band
Rocks Animals Plants Petroleum
metal pot sweater towel plastic bottle
mirror silk clothes tyres raincoat
bricks leather handbag wooden chair tent

Elastic and waterproof. To enable the ball to be kicked around and the
balloon to expand.

Because materials that conduct heat become hot very fast. The food in the
rice cooker will cook faster and the clothes can be ironed easily.
M – Animals (skin); N – Plants (rubber)

Rubber because it is elastic and is flexible/ cotton because it absorbs

sweat on the feet and is not warm / plastic because it is waterproof.
