Zuerst der „Christus an der Säule“ Rembrandts, gemalt etwa im
Jahre 1646, in Rembrandts Vierzigstem. Ein kleines Bild. Doch voll
und reif im Künstlerischen.
Ein schwächlich müder Jüngling ists, kein Christus. Das
Überhöhende, naturhaftes Erfahren Überschreitende lag nicht in
Rembrandts Seele. Nachdem er die gezwungenen Posen seiner
Jugendart verlassen hatte, hat er den Christus immer wieder als
reinen Menschen gemalt, dem „Hoheit“ niemals eignet. Dafür
verinnerlicht er ihn im menschlichen Gefühl.
Rein naturalistisch ist das Bild empfunden. Ohne jede
„Abweichung von der Natur“. Wahrwirklich so im Körper, wie im
Seelischen. Der Jüngling stellt sich an die Wand, rückt das rechte
Bein als eckig hingestelltes Spielbein vor, neigt sich im magern
Körper und der schwachen Brust nach vorne, senkt still den Kopf
und bleibt. Bleibt dem Auge und dem Malen Rembrandts, der mit
sicherster Gewähr des Treffens, die Beine so, den Körper so, die
Hände lax verschränkt, den Kopf gesunken und geneigt, das Ganze
in das warme Licht des Zimmers eingehüllt, das „Objekt“ faßt. Sein
Seelisches zu „deuten“, tut weder Rembrandt, noch der Analyse not.
Der Jüngling war, schon als Modell, im Innersten so traurig-müde, so
milde-gütig und hingebungsvoll geneigt, daß im rein körperlichen
Neigen der Figur und ihres Kopfes das Hingegebene und Mit-Leid
Weckende innerseelischer Wahrwirklichkeit zutage tritt, wie es im
Leben selbst geschah.
Demgegenüber dann der „Stabträger“ der klassischen Antike.
In Stand- und Spielbein klar geschieden, mit dem Abb. 35.
wohltönenden Rhythmus, der alle Eckigkeiten und
Besonderheiten einmalig zufälliger Haltung zum Wesentlichen
