TITLE

A REPORT OF THE INVESTIGATION INTO POSSIBLE FACTORS LEADING TO THE


CONSTANT DECREASE OF STUDENT ENROLMENT IN THE PAST TWO YEARS AT
SMART MINDS INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY.

1. Terms of reference.

On the 25th of April 2022, Mr Farai Mangwiro, THE Chief Executive Officer of the Smart
Minds International University commissioned the writer (put your name) the
Communications Manager at Smart Minds to carry out an investigation as to why
student enrolment has decreased in the past two years. The findings and
recommendations are to be presented to the CEO by the 25h of May 2023.

2. Procedures.

To obtain the information in this report, the following procedures were followed,

2.1 Interviews with the SRC members were carried out to find out if they received
overwhelming requests to bring back on campus registration.
2.2 Focus group discussions were carried out with prospective students to find out if
they preferred online campus registration to online registration.
2.3 Telephone calls were made to randomly selected former students to find out if they
felt that on campus registration was a better option.
2.4 A meeting with the Registrar’s office was conducted to check the attitude of
students on both on campus registration and online registration.
3. Findings
Based on the above procedures, it was found out that,
3.1 The SRC members confirmed that they received overwhelming requests from
prospective students and parents.
3.2 80 percent of the prospective students who attended the focus group discussions
confirmed they preferred on campus registration.
3.3 Ninety percent of former students who were called were positive that on campus
registrations were a better option than online registrations.
3.4 The registrar’s PA confirmed that students had a negative attitude towards online
registration.

4. Conclusions
Based on the above findings, it was concluded that,
4.1 The community was not happy with online registrations and hence they
approached the SRC.
4.2 Prospective students preferred on campus registration to online registrations.
4.3 Former University were in support of the on campus registration.
4.4 Online registration was not yielding results because students have a negative
attitude towards it.

5.Recommendations,

It is therefore recommended that,

5.1 The SRC continues to accommodate the community’s disgruntlements and passes
them over to the Communication Officer so that they can be addressed.

5.2 The University incorporates both on campus and online registration.

5.3 The University does a campaign on how online registration is done and its
advantages.
