b SYNCHRONOUS OPERATION
Draw the required timing diagram for each type.
1.2. Explain the following Asynchronous counter operations
a A three bit asynchronous counter in detail
b Asynchronous down counter
c Asynchronous decade counter
Draw the timing diagram for each counter as listed above.
1.3. Explain Synchronous counter design method. Show the necessary steps.
1.4. Explain how to design the following synchronous counters.
a Design a 3- bit synchronous counter
b Design a 3- bit binary UP/DOWN counter
1.5. Compares TTC and CMOS counter circuits and devices in terms of their speed of
operation and output configuration.
1.6. Explain the applications of counters.

B LOGICAL CIRCUIT FAMILIES

2. All modern digital systems utilities digital Integrated circuits, because they result in increase
in reliability and a reduction in weight and size.
2.1. Explain the operation and sketches the circuits of a TTL
a NAND
b NOR
c INVERTER
2.2. Explain the operation and sketches the circuits of a CMOS
a NAND gate
b NOR gate
c INVERTER
2.3. Sketches the circuit of an emitter – coupled logic OR/NOR gate and describe the its
operation.
2.4. Explain the operation and sketches the I2L circuits, and list the application of the I 2L
circuits.
2.5. Compare TTL and CMOS gates in terms of power dissipation, supply requirements
and compatibility.

C INTERFACING LOGIC FAMILIES

3. In this section, the in for facing of TTL and CMOS Logic devices is considered.
3.1. Explain why we need the “INTERFACING” for logic families.
3.2. Explain the operation of CMOS to TTL interfacing.
3.3. Explain the operation of TTL to CMOS interfacing
3.4. Explain the operation of LAMP/ LED interfacing
3.5. Explain the operation of WIRED – AND interfacing

D TIME DIVISION MULTIPLEXING

4. The operation of Multiplexing and de multiplexing in order to reduce circuit cost and
complexity.
4.1. State that the multiplexed acts like a digitally controlled multi position switch where
the digital code applied to the select inputs control which data will be switched to the
output.
4.2. Draw the logical diagram of
a 2 input
b 4 input
c 16 input multiplier and explain it’s operation.
4.3. Verity 5.2 using multiplexer IC’s
4.4. Explain the application of multiplier in
a Data routing
b Data Selection
c Operation sequences
4.5. Perform the experiments related to 4.4 using multiplier
4.6. State the function of a Demultiplexer as a digitally controlled multi position switch in
which the select input code determines to which output DATA input will be
transmitted.
4.7. Draw the logical diagram of a one line to eight Demultiplexer and Explain it’s
operation.
