Unit name: Introduce Yourself

Learning Objective:
 Students will be able to use basic vocabulary in English related to color, numbers,
greetings and some personal information.

 Listening: I follow instructions related to class activities and recreational
suggested by my teacher.
 Reading: I recognize and follow simple instructions, if they are illustrated.
 Writing: I write the names of places and elements that I recognize in an illustration

Method:
It is important to mention that the use of multimethod is crucial for an effective
development of the class. First, the teacher begging with the grammatical translation
method, that is because the level of the students they need to know the translation of
every word while teacher’s speech. After that, audio lingual method is used by using a
video and repeating the pronunciation. Also the TPR is used in order to make the class
moving. In this method, the students follow instructions even in English, without using
the mother tongue all the time that is and advantage of this method with children,
because they can deduce the meaning of phrases thanks to the movement examples.

On the other hand, one of the approaches that is recommended for teaching content
through FL is the task-based approach. The task represents a unit of work in which the
language is used for a specific communicative purpose (related to what the speakers
do with the language in relation to the topic being worked on) in order to achieve a
result or obtain a goal. Target. Generally, the task is preceded by pre-tasks (or
preparatory tasks, enabling or scaffolding tasks), which are activities focused on
aspects of the language or the content that the students will need to use to carry out
the final task and that are trained to carry it out. Normally, the final task consists of a
'real' product (an interview, an electronic presentation, a tourist brochure, a video of the
center's facilities, instructions for operating a certain device, a poster with healthy
lifestyle habits, a menu, etc.). A brochure with recommendations on what to do in the
event of an earthquake…).

 Current situations require the use of technological devices and media, such as
videos, PowerPoint presentations and materials designed to exemplify the lesson
will be implemented as a guide that was designed by the Senior Teacher with the
collaboration of the practitioner alongside with clay and copies. It is also necessary
to take into account the context and materials from real life, according to the
situation.

TEACHING SEQUENCY

SEQUENCE #1.

Activities:

Warm up: (15 minutes) video: hello, what’s your name?

The teacher shows a video to the class about personal presentation. The video gets
students’ attention since it is like a program they usually see on TV. The video also
includes subtitles, but the teacher let the students watch the full video without any pause,
then, after the video she can go further into the topic.

Activity 1: The name game (25 minutes)


In this game the teacher divides students into two teams, each team sits in circles and, the
teacher gives a ball to a member of each team. The member with the ball say his/her
name and pass the ball, and the student who receives the ball repeat the name of the first
player and then says her/him. i.e. (first student), I’m Juan, or, my name is Juan… (second
student): he is Juan, I’m Natalia…and so on. if the student with the ball forgets the name of
a teammate, the balls return to the first player. The first team to finish wins the round and
scores one point. Teacher can make variations of the game or increase the difficulty like
for example the age.

Activity 2: sentence monkey game (listen and choose) (15 minutes)

The teacher uses the computer to play a game. Click play and listen to a sentence. Drag
and drop the correct words to fill in the blank spaces below. If you are correct, the monkey
gets a banana. Help the monkey get a banana by getting the sentences right!

In this activity the students also review some numbers for expressing the age.

Activity 3: complete and color (30 minutes)

The teacher handles a printed worksheet to each student, they must complete using their
personal information and color the copy. The teacher says the color that the students
should use to color each object or picture, that to practice colors seen on previews
lessons.
The teacher tells to the students the meaning of the words they do not know, for them to
complete the information. In the worksheet students should include personal information
like name, age, place where they live, movie, pet, activities they like…etc.

Activity 4: Color and numbers practice. Classroom worksheet. (35 minutes)

In this activity students have a printed worksheet in which they can practice numbers,
colors and personal information at the same time. First, they have to color each number
according to the instructions. After coloring each number, they have to complete some
sentences about personal information of someone, according to the sentence, they choose
a word from a box. I.e. my name is____________, then they must choose the only
person’s name in the box. Same thing with the age, city, favorite color.

Activity 6: personal information video (25 minutes)

The teacher closes the lesson with a video about personal information. The video is in
both languages Spanish and English, so students can understand better the whole video.
The aim is to finish the class given a summary of the topic. While watching the video the
educator pauses the video and ask some questions to the students, to practice at the
same time of watching. For instance, if the video gives a question like: what is your first
name? and also the answer: my first name is Jack! Then the teacher can choose a student
and ask: what is your first name.

SEQUENCE #2:

EVALUATION PRACTICES

 Evaluation in this lessons is carried out through observation of students’


performance. It is a formative assessment focus on the learning process in each
lesson. Besides, using some worksheets during the class the teacher can also
check the understanding of the students.
