Performance Based Assessment & Learning

Reflection
Upon viewing the video pertaining to Performance Based Assessment & Learning, I have come
to understand the significance of experiential learning as opposed to memorization of
knowledge. It's amazing how learners used projects and activities to demonstrate what they had
learned, as seen in the movie. It improves our memory and adds enjoyment to the learning
process. This type of learning, in my opinion, is superior as it enables us to comprehend how
real-world processes operate. It's similar to learning how to ride a bike via practice rather than
merely reading about it. Thus, I think that performance-based evaluation is an excellent method
for us to grow and demonstrate our knowledge.

The video also emphasized how learners may exhibit their knowledge and abilities in real-world
contexts through performance-based assessments. This method fosters critical thinking,
creativity, and problem-solving—skills that are vital for success in the modern world. Because
learners participate in practical exercises that demand them to apply what they have learned to
actual situations, it also promotes a better comprehension of the subject matter. All things
considered, performance-based evaluation improves student learning and equips them for next
problems in addition to evaluating comprehension.

It also highlighted how performance-based evaluation encourages learners to actively participate

in their education. Learners actively engage in tasks that demand them to analyze, synthesize,
and evaluate knowledge as opposed to passively taking in it. This active participation fosters a
sense of ownership over their learning process in addition to improving retention. Learners also
acquire self-assurance and a stronger feeling of satisfaction in their accomplishments when they
demonstrate their knowledge and skills via concrete projects and presentations. Performance-
based evaluation, thus, fosters important life skills like resilience, teamwork, and communication
in addition to evaluating academic competency.

Also, by highlighting the many skills and abilities of learners, performance-based evaluation
promotes a comprehensive approach to education. In order to accommodate a variety of learning
preferences and styles, it offers opportunity for students to exhibit their abilities in a variety of
methods. This inclusiveness creates a welcoming and inclusive classroom where every learner
may succeed. In the end, performance-based evaluation produces a lifetime love of learning and
fosters a growth mentality in addition to assessing academic progress. This method gives learners
the tools they must succeed in a world that is always changing by highlighting the value of
application and real-world experience.

Performance-Based Assessment: Engaging
Students in Chemistry Reflection
I observed the video on performance-based evaluation in chemistry education to be quite
interesting and useful for getting learners involved in their education. Through practical
exercises and demonstrations, the instructor in the video employed a variety of techniques to
gauge the pupils' comprehension of chemical principles.

One remarkable example of how the instructor used performance-based evaluation in the
classroom was through demonstrations and experiments. The instructor actively engaged learners
in experiments so they could see chemical reactions firsthand rather than simply lecturing. This
not only made the topics easier for learners to comprehend, but it also made it possible for the
instructor to evaluate their comprehension using the observations and analyses of the
experiments.

Learners also had to collaborate with one another to solve issues or evaluate data through group
activities and conversations that their instructor included into the session. The instructor gained
insights into everyone's understanding of the subject matter and their participation from this
collaborative method, which also encouraged critical thinking and communication skills.

Similar strategies for improving chemistry education may be used in the Philippines to
incorporate performance-based evaluation. Instructors might set up lab periods in where learners
carry out experiments to apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in the classroom. In
order to promote cooperation and active engagement among learners, group projects and
presentations might also be assigned. Learners' success in carrying out experiments, evaluating
data, and summarizing their conclusions can be used to evaluate these tasks.

In order to make the material more applicable and understandable to Filipino learners, instructors
can also use real-world situations or local examples in their courses. This method can make
learning more relevant by assisting students in making the connection between abstract ideas and
real-world applications.

Ultimately, instructors in the Philippines can successfully engage learners in learning chemistry
while also measuring their comprehension holistically by using performance-based assessment
methodologies including practical experiments, group activities, and real-life situations.
