Task 1:

1. Compare and contrast organizational, functional, and process views and identify the
negative consequences of the traditional functional organizational structure.
An organizational view is the way that an organization defines the roles and the
personnel that are needed and responsible for given processes within the body of the
organization. This would be job descriptions, skills, or educational requirements that are
required to hold different positions. Functional view like companies are complex
systems that must somehow be deconstructed to be manageable. A common way to
decompose a company is to divide it hierarchically into functional departments. This
benefits the company efficient performance and consistency in decision making. While
process view does not divide a company into smaller concepts, but instead defines the
ways in which services or products are developed. This means that a process approach
connects different organizational functions to produce a specific outcome. This benefits
the company more responsive market requirements, facilitate market segmentation and
alignment of function objectives.
The negative consequence of the traditional functional organizational structure
is long time decision making, If your small business has many layers of management,
you may find that it can take a long time for the decisions to work their way through
all the people that need to weigh in on an issue. Coordinating the input of multiple
managers can require a level of compromise that waters down the decision-making
process. In addition, you must be adept at handling the politics of decision making
with many managers so that no one feels their opinion is being ignored. Another one
lacks individual authority, a traditional structure assigns authority to the position
rather than to the individual. This means individual managers do not earn respect.
They inherit it. This requires you to constantly check the effectiveness of individuals in
various positions to see if they have the actual skills for the job, or if they are counting
on the authority of the position to maintain their status. And Inability to Adapt
Globally, the traditional organization has a headquarters. Decisions that affect the
entire company are made at headquarters. This can be a disadvantage in a global
economy where people on the ground in specific locales need the authority to make
decisions to adapt a company’s strategy to the local population. The one-size-fits-all
decision making of the traditional organization may cause the company to lose global
customers.
2. Discuss and describe the various flows in a process—physical, data, document, and
information.
Process flows is a series of sequential tasks that guide people to get work done.
Process flow components include operations, timelines, resources, and people. The
main aim of process flows is to streamline and standardize business processes and
provide a better understanding of business to the team. The tasks in process flows can
either be executed in a sequential or parallel manner. Physical flow is the flow of
materials, products, inventories, and other goods in logistics networks, the main
direction of which is from the point of origin to the point of consumption. However,
physical flows also include the backward or reverse flows of materials, therefore, they
involve the entire process and activities of logistics systems. Data flow refers to how
data moves through an organization or business. Document is a process of creating,
tracking, editing, storing, and managing document within the organization. It helps the
organization in digitizing or automating the documents for the less of operating cost,
storage cost and printing cost. Information flow is the exchange of information among
people, and processes within an organization. it improves communication and
collaboration across departments and locations, they can analyze this information to
make informed decisions. Having accurate information in your business. You can trade
information to increase your revenue or reduce your expenses. Example is you can
analyze customer trends and introduce a new line of products or services which will
generate additional revenue for your business.

3. Explain how enterprise systems enable organizations to execute and manage processes.

Enterprise system enable organizations or businesses to execute and manage

processes by providing single information system. Enterprise system collects data from
different various key business processes and stores the data in a single comprehensive
data repository where it can be used by other parts of the business.
