What is coronary
heart disease?
Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is when your
coronary arteries become narrowed by fatty
material within their walls. These arteries
supply your heart with blood containing high
levels of oxygen. But when plaque, a sticky mix
of fat, cholesterol, and other substances, builds
up in these arteries, it reduces the flow of blood
to a crawl or even a halt in severe cases.

This can lead to heart muscle not getting

enough oxygen, causing chest pain,
discomfort, and other symptoms like shortness
of breath. If a blockage completely stops the
blood flow, it could cause a heart attack, which
can sometimes be fatal
What Causes Coronary Heart Disease?
Coronary heart disease is primarily caused by
the buildup of plaque in the arteries that
supply the heart with blood and oxygen. This
plaque is made up of cholesterol, fat, and other
substances that can gradually clog the arteries,
reducing blood flow and increasing the risk of
heart attack.
The Impact CHD has on the world

110 million men and 80 million women are affected by coronary heart disease and 9 million dies by it
each year. Compared to cancers 20million diagnosis and 10 million deaths.
