QUESTION 6

Part A: Read the passage below and answer the following questions.

Smoke that Kills

Smoking is when you inhale and exhale the smoke of burning tobacco that is

mostly used in three forms which are cigarettes, pipes and cigars. A lot of people

use smoking as an excuse to release tension or just simple because of peer

pressure. Smoking has bad effects to the smokers themselves as well as the people

around them.

Cigarette smoke contains many toxic substances like carbon monoxide,

nicotine, and carcinogens. Carbon monoxide will reduce the oxygen amount in the

blood. Meanwhile, nicotine contained in cigarette smoke reduces the activity of the

brain and nervous system. It also raises the risk of high blood pressure. Nicotine

causes the contraction of blood vessels and decrease of blood supply. This

ultimately leads to heart attacks.

Smokers are at a higher risk of developing certain kinds of cancers because

cigarette smoke contains carcinogens. Long-time smokers often develop cancers of

the mouth, larynx and lungs. Public should be aware about the danger of smoking

as well as for secondary smoke.
