Notes/Recommendation:
• The ratio measurements indicated the % Ratio & Phase Angle errors for the PTs to be similar between the
three phases.
• The % ratio error & phase displacement as per IEC 60044-2 for 0.5 accuracy class metering cores are to be
within ±0.5% & ± 20 Minutes respectively. The same as measured for metering cores of PTs in all the phases are
marginally around ±0.5% and are acceptably within the allowable limits. The corresponding phase
displacements are also all within ± 20 Minutes. It is however acceptable & OK.
• The % ratio error & phase displacement as per IEC 60044-2 for 3P accuracy class protection cores are to be
within ±3.0 % & ± 120 Minutes respectively. The same as measured for protection cores of PTs in all the phases
are well within the acceptable limits of ±3.0% and ± 120 Minutes.
• The marginally high % ratio errors above the allowable limits, is attributed to the measurements carried out at
voltages and connected burdens far below 80 to 120% of rated PT primary voltage and 25 to 100% of nominal
burdens respectively. The low-test voltages are owing to the limitations of such portable field test kits which
are usual. However, errors are identical and therefore, acceptable as compared among themselves between
the phases with PT types of similar make/accuracy class.
• The PT connections with respect to their polarity were measured “OK” for PTs in all the phases.
• The PTs in terms of their Primary & Secondary winding insulation to ground also are found OK but with an
indication of slightly weaker secondary winding insulation for the R-Phase PTs, which is probably due to
moisture ingress into the PT secondary terminals, over a period of them being in service.
Next Test Date: 2-3 years or on detection of any abnormal performance/circuit modification, whichever is earlier.
