“To all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful, and
deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own
dreams.”
- Hillary Clinton.
We need to reshape our own perception of how we view ourselves. We have to step up as
- Beyonce.
“When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.”
- Malala Yousafzai.
“Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women.”
- Maya Angelou.
As we celebrate Women’s Month this March, the nationwide EC movement go by the theme-
“Kababaihan: Hindi lang Ilaw ng Tahanan kundi ng Buong Komunidad” is an affirmation that we
women can bring light and change, not only in our households but to the whole community.
Gone are the days when women are often seen as housewives and caretakers, and perceived
as a second class citizen who have no voice on matters - whether in her household or in the
community, as she is perceived to be the weaker gender. We have leaped many times over to
claim our place in our society and women now are working and doing well in their careers and
their lives, because that is what empowerment is, to do better and be better.
Being a woman speaks volume already, first and foremost - we are the channel of bringing a
new life to the world. But bear in mind that we can be beyond that ultimate role, aside from
being a mother we can also be a successful career woman. Women in the workplace is a proof
that people can see beyond gender stereotypes and believe in our ability to excel.
And I laud all the women who are working, no matter what, how and where because it is a proof
that you have empowered yourselves to be contributory to our society. Female empowerment is
essential because empowering a woman is giving that woman her rights.
As I quote Coco Chanel – of the infamous luxury brand - “A girl should be two things: who and
what she wants” end of quote.
Our capacity is beyond our gender, not because we are women, we cannot achieve what men
can. Let us not limit ourselves by our physical strength, go beyond that, after all we are all
human beings capable of doing great things. Take the cases of our first gold Olympian, Ms.
Hidilyn Diaz and our first Nobel Prize Winner Maria Ressa, they all faced many challenges only
because they are women, yet they persevered and proved their worth. It just took these two
women for us Filipinos to be applauded worldwide.
And for all of us - Lady Warriors of Light, take note that we do not have to be linemen to bring
light to each and every household, instead, bear in mind that as we work here in ANTECO, we
are an integral part of ANTECO’s mandate of bringing power to Antiqueños. With the many
challenges brought about by the power industry, the political climate, world issues,
disinformation, and many more –stand for truth, illuminate yourself and be that light of hope to
others. Give your best, at your workplace and in the community where you belong, in whatever
you do go the extra mile, raise your standards, so that if you fall short, it is still higher than what
is common. We are now given many platforms and opportunities to showcase our capacity and
strength, take that chance, because we can. Let us help each other, our fellow women, let us lift
each others up. Because as what Maya Angelou said “Each time a woman stands up for
