learning experience but also for maintaining a positive impression in a professional

environment. Also, they educated that being responsible means taking ownership of their tasks,

following instructions diligently, and completing assignments with accuracy and timeliness.

throughout their work immersion experience. Moreover, the orientation highlighted the critical

JOURNAL

WEEK 1 (February 15-16, 2024)

Day 1

On our first day of work immersion, we commenced with a brief orientation session to

familiarize ourselves with the company's rules and regulations. Following this, we kindly help

the employees maintain cleanliness in the shop by wiping the tables and sweeping the floor.

The barista here guides us to make coffee and puts a sticker on the cups. After that, we were

tasked with doing an inventory by counting the number of equipment and ingredients to

monitor it weekly. I was put in charge of transferring the numbers into Excel. As the day wound

down, we encountered a customer who graduated with a business administration major in

marketing, just like my future course. He generously shared insights and advice in the field for

us to prepare for our college journey.

Day 2

On the next day of 1st week of my work immersion, our day started by cleaning the

entire area, including wiping the plants, to maintain the cleanliness and welcoming atmosphere

in the shop. Since we will only do inventory once a week, we then moved on to taking customer

orders, and I personally am in charge of being the cashier. I handle customer change and ensure

that it's accurate. Since the barista taught me to make coffee on day one, I started to help them

make coffee for the customers. Also, the highlight of our day was that our supervisor gave us

the task of making a promotion for their business.

Learning Insight

During the first week of our work immersion in the coffee shop, we gained several

valuable learning insights. I realized that participating in cleaning tasks instilled in us the
13

importance of maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Also, my experience in

inventory helps me improve my skills in handling and encoding data. Additionally, I find

interacting with a customer exciting because sometimes we don't expect that we will learn

something new from strangers, and they will motivate us.

WEEK 2 (February 22-23, 2024)

Day 1

On the first day of the second week of our work immersion, we arrived earlier, so our

supervisor allowed us to open the shop. Our day started by doing our routine, cleaning the

entire area, and also organizing the ingredients for making coffee. Next, we do an inventory

because it is required to be done every week. I am always in charge of recording the inventory

in Excel to maintain the record. After that, I enhanced my skills in making coffee by helping

the barista make the coffee ordered by the customer. The day will not end without new

knowledge. One of the employee teach us how to equalize the net sales and how to know the

cash on hands.

Day 2

On the following day, we arrived earlier again, and we asked permission from our

supervisor to open the shop. As I mentioned, we did our routine; we cleaned the entire area;

we wiped the tables and swept the floor. We also put a sticker on cups. After that, our supervisor

allowed us to take orders; they only guided us if we didn't know what to do. Also, aside from

taking customer’s orders, we are also the ones who prepare their orders, which makes me want

to improve my skills in making coffee.

Learning Insight
14

On my second week, I believe in the quote "trust the process," because as our days run

in our work immersion, they are teaching me here to make coffee. At first, I am nervous, and I

feel frustrated whenever I don't follow the right procedure to do a coffee. But, as they say,

"practice makes perfect." I need to always do my best so I will not disappoint myself, and it

will help me to be better. Also, the more that I take orders, it helps me to enhance my

communication skills. Taking orders boosts my confidence in socializing with people.

WEEK 3 (March 1 & 3, 2024)

Day 1

On my third week, day five of work immersion at the coffee shop, our routine started

with table wiping, followed by mapping out the floor and cleaning the windows for a fresh

look. Conducting the weekly inventory was our main tasked, ensuring everything was

accounted for. Recording the inventory in excel was always my next task in doing an inventory.

I closely observed how the staff efficiently took orders and learned about the various discounts

offered, such as those for seniors and persons with disabilities. Additionally, I had the

opportunity to help the barista in making a perfect cup of coffee, adding to my growing hands-

on experience in the shop.

Day 2

On the second day of my third week, our day started with helping the staff here clean

and wipe the plants in the coffee shop to maintain cleanliness and for the safety of the

customers. After that, we started our weekly task of conducting an inventory to monitor the

equipment and ingredients in the shop. When we are finally done counting the number of

equipment and ingredients, I will proceed to record it in Excel because I was in charge of

maintaining the record there. As the day goes by, I can finally make coffee without their

guidance, so if we have customers, I'm the one who does their orders, so I can get used to it.
15

We also help the staff here serve the customer's order, so I can enhance my communication

skills.

Learning Insight

Another week, another piece of knowledge. In our third week, I can proudly say that I

can make coffee without their guidance. I learned that believing in myself will always help me

to improve my skills, though I cannot totally perfect them, but at least I have improved. I just

need to help myself and love what I do so I can be better and learn more.

WEEK 4 (March 14-15, 2024)

Day 1

This week, on our seventh day of work immersion, when we arrived at our workplace,

we started our day by cleaning the entire shop because it's our routine. We were also tasked

with putting stickers on cups. On this day, we don't conduct inventory because our supervisor

said that we could do it the next day. So our task on this day is to take orders from customers,

and we are also the ones who do their orders. Before the day ends, we help the staff here clean

the equipment that they use that day.

Day 2

On the second day of our fourth week, of course, our day will not start without cleaning

the shop because the shop maintains the cleanliness of their business for the safety of their

customers. We also put a sticker again so the shop will not run out of cups with stickers. After

that, we did an inventory because we were not able to do it on our first day of the fourth week,

as our supervisor said. As usual, I am in charge of recording the numbers of the stuff in Excel

to maintain it. Our day will not end without making coffee for the customer's order. When we
16

were done with our daily tasks, our supervisor allowed us to take orders from the customers,

make their orders, and serve it to them.

Learning Insight

This week, I realized that I am no longer afraid or shy about taking orders from

customers because I am gradually getting used to it. I learned that when I go out of my comfort

zone, it can help me to be more confident and learn something new. And before, I was having

a hard time conducting inventory and recording it in Excel. But now, as I do it every day, it

makes me feel like I am starting to get used to it, and it becomes easy for me.

WEEK 5 (March 21-22, 2024)

Day 1

On our first day of our last week, we always start it by cleaning the area, and we also

map the floor. Following that, we conducted an inventory because we usually do it on our first

day of the week. As usual, we count the number of equipment and ingredients. After counting

it, I recorded it in Excel because it is my task every week. I also take orders from the customers

and do their orders. Some of our customers asked about our strand, and our conversation

continued until they left the coffee shop.

Day 2

On our last day, of course, we will start by cleaning the coffee shop. We wiped the

tables and sweep the floors. Our supervisor also tasked us with putting stickers on cups because

they ran out of cups with the stickers. Since it's our first day, our supervisor didn't give us so

many tasks. We just take orders from the customers and do their orders. I also help the

employees here when they are taking orders. When we have already done our tasks for that

day, our last task is to observe them from taking orders from the customers to serving them.
17

Also, our supervisor made a simple celebration because it was our last day in their coffee shop.

They bought fries and ice cream, and we ate them. Before our last day ended, we thanked our

supervisor and the employees here for their guidance and kindness to us.

Learning Insight

On my last week, in my four weeks with my supervisor and employees here, I became

closer to them, and I started to love what I'm doing here because of them. I realized that a

healthy workplace really makes us love work. It's really important to maintain a healthy

workplace because it contributes to our well-being. When we feel mentally and physically well, we are

more engaged, motivated, and able to perform at our best.
