WELCOME
Thank you for joining us at the 2024 Rotary International
Convention, where Sharing Hope With the World is
demonstrated through expanded friendship, shared
knowledge, and a tireless commitment to peace.
This year, we gather in one of the world’s most beautiful and
ever-changing cities. Singapore is home to world-class dining
and cultural attractions, and it illustrates how nature and
urban living can complement each other and point us toward
a sustainable future.
Every Rotary Convention is an opportunity for renewed
friendship and new connections that can lead to lasting
change around the globe. This year’s program features a
special emphasis on how we can better care for one another
and the people we serve.
Over the next several days, we invite you to attend our general
sessions, where you will hear fascinating speakers discuss
how Rotary expands our reach to build lasting connections,
increases our ability to adapt to better serve a rapidly
changing world, increases our impact through large-scale
service projects, and enhances participant engagement to
foster friendship and peace.
In addition, we encourage you to visit the House of
Friendship, the ultimate destination for Rotary members and
friends to gather the tools and resources they need to make an
impact through our projects and programs.
There is so much more that you can do to make this
convention memorable, from exploring a wide range of topics
that interest you in our breakout sessions to holding informal
meetings with friends in Rotary to exchanging ideas and, of
course, taking part in all of Rotary International’s and the
Host Organization Committee’s events.
Throughout, you will be entertained by the outstanding
performances that we have selected for you, and you will
enjoy the beauty and grandeur of Singapore, a city that holds
surprises at every turn.
We are so pleased that you have taken the time to join us.
Let’s make this an experience that we’ll never forget.
Sincerely,

Gordon and Heather McInally

to wear it at all times while at the convention venue. Your
badge will be scanned at the entrances to general sessions,
breakout sessions, and Rotary-ticketed events.
Rotary is committed to protecting convention attendees’
personal data. Because of this commitment, name badges do
not store sensitive personal data. Refer to Rotary’s privacy
policy for more information. By registering for the convention
or any related events, you affirm that you understand that
your personal data and the personal data of your child or any

date program information in the Rotary Events app. Search
for “Rotary Events” in your app store. Download it and sign
in. Select the 2024 Rotary Convention event. From there, you
can create a profile and interact with other users.
If you need help with downloading the app, creating
your profile, signing in, or navigating the app, visit the
Interpretation and Rotary Events App Help counters (Sands
Expo and Convention Centre, Level 1, Expo Halls A and B;
Level 3, near Heliconia Ballroom; and Level 5, Sands Grand
Ballroom, during general sessions).

policy, as indicated in the app.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

First Aid and Emergencies
During convention hours, first aid is available at the First Aid
Office (Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Level 4, Lotus
4D). If you need immediate medical assistance and cannot get
to the First Aid Office, contact any of the following people:

30
• Sergeants-at-arms (identified by yellow vests)
• Venue security staff members
• Rotary staff members (identified by a green staff badge or
a blue Rotary staff shirt)
View a list of local hospitals and pharmacies near the Sands
Expo and Convention Centre.
RI and the Host Organization Committee are not responsible
or liable for any convention attendee’s injuries or health
issues during the attendee’s travel to and from and stay in the
convention city.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover
emergency medical expenses, medical evacuation, and
repatriation costs in case of unexpected injuries or illnesses
while outside of your country of residence. Unless your health
insurance provider confirms that you are covered while you
attend the convention, it is reasonable to assume that you are
not protected in case of a medical emergency.

Personal Safety
Singapore welcomes visitors from around the world, but
experienced travelers know that tourists should use caution
everywhere. Remember to:
• Remove your convention badge and place it in a secure
pocket or bag when you leave the convention venue.
Wearing your badge in public can make you a target for
pickpockets.
• Stay alert. Show strong, confident body language and make
eye contact.
• Carry only what you need. Limit the valuables you carry
and avoid carrying large amounts of money. Do not carry
all of your identification (including credit cards and
passport) at the same time or in the same wallet or purse.
• Keep your wallet in a hard-to-reach place like a front pants
pocket, inside suit pocket, or deep inside a purse. Hold
purses or bags in front of you, covered with your hands.
• Be aware of your surroundings and use caution especially
near banks, ATMs, and train and bus stations.
• Leave your Rotary bags in your hotel room and use a
nondescript bag during your stay.

Risks of In-Person Attendance

In attending the Rotary International Convention, you
acknowledge that there is risk of exposure to viruses and
communicable disease where people are present and assume
such risk by attending the event. You agree to abide by all
policies and procedures set forth by Rotary International,
and all local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations,
including social-distancing and face-covering orders.

31
SERGEANTS-AT-ARMS
Sergeants-at-arms, a team of experienced Rotary
members and their partners, are stationed throughout the
convention venues to answer questions and offer general
assistance to attendees. They are easily identified by their
yellow vests.
Attendees are asked to follow the direction of the sergeants-
at-arms.
Rotary members who are interested in serving as volunteer
sergeants-at-arms are asked to go to the Sergeants-at-Arms
Office (Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Level 3, Angsana
3D) to receive their assignments and other information.

SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION
All general sessions and the Donor Summit are
conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation
available in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin,
Portuguese, and Spanish. Breakout sessions will be presented
in English, Mandarin or Spanish, and some sessions marked
with offer simultaneous interpretation in select languages.
Check the event information in this program to see whether
interpretation will be available in your language.
To access simultaneous interpretation (SI), you will need
to use your personal smart device to scan a QR code when
you enter a session where SI is available. An interpretation
widget will open in your browser so you can select your
preferred language. Headphones and an internet connection
are required. Closed captioning in English and other available
languages will also be offered in all SI rooms.
New this year: Two breakout session rooms will feature
automated interpretation with closed captioning powered by
machine interpretation. When you enter one of these rooms,
you can scan a QR code to access this feature.
Please be advised that sessions with automated interpretation
are produced by machine translation and may not accurately
capture audio content.
For general SI questions, visit the Interpretation and Rotary
Events App Help counters (Sands Expo and Convention
Centre, Level 1, Expo Halls A and B; Level 3, near Heliconia
Ballroom; and Level 5, Sands Grand Ballroom, during general
sessions). Additional assistance will be available at the start
of the Arch Klumph Society Preconvention (Sands Expo and
Convention Centre, Level 3, Hibiscus 3712) and The Rotary
Foundation Donor Summit (Sands Expo and Convention
Centre, Level 4, Peony 4401B).
