INTRODUCTION
There are 10 National Institutes of Technology in India, one of which conducts NIT
MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) every year for admission into course of
Masters in Computer Applications (MCA). The process usually commences with the
release of official notification in the month of February and concludes with admissions
by the end of June. Candidates have to fill in online application forms and appear for
NIMCET exam which is followed by declaration of result in online mode. This is fol-
lowed by allotment of seats and counselling for admission into choice of NITs.
A total of 809 seats are offered across 10 NITs for MCA course through NIMCET. Thus,
those planning to pursue Masters in the field of computers should definitely not miss

puter Applications (MCA). Thus candidates can have a look at series of events that

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates interested to appear for NIMCET for admission into MCA course has to
make sure that he/ she complies with the eligibility criteria propagated by the officials.
The table below contains category wise requirements for a candidate aspiring for
NIMCET:

Minimum marks 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA on a 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a
10-point scale 10-point scale
Nationality Indian
Minimum educational ●● B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons) / BCA / BIT of minimum three years
qualification full-time from a recognized University with Mathematics/
Statistics as one of the subjects (candidates from open uni-
versities are also eligible)
OR
●● B.E./ B.Tech. from a recognized University
Passing Year Not later than September month of admission year

APPLICATION FORM
In order to appear for NIMCET exam, candidates have to fill the application form which
is usually released in the first week of March. Candidates have to submit the same
before last date in online mode as the same is not provided in offline mode. Given
below are the steps to follow in order to fill and submit NIMCET application form:

Online Registration
●● Visit the official website of NIMCET and click on ‘New Registration’.
●● Fill in the mandatory details like e-mail ID, password, security question and answer,
etc. These details are to be remembered until the end of the NIMCET admission
process.
●● An e-mail will be sent automatically to the aforementioned email-ID, wherein a link
to the webpage to set your own password will be provided.
*It is strictly forbidden to create multiple user logins.

Filling the NIMCET Application Form


●● Here, candidates will be required to fill in their personal details (name, DOB, par-
ents’ names) and academic details (marks and grades).
●● Candidates must ensure that they do not miss out any spaced which are marked
‘*Mandatory’.
●● Candidates will also be asked to choose their top 3 most preferred NIMCET exam
centres in their order of preference.

Uploading mandatory documents:


Documents to be uploaded in NIMCET application form have to comply with the format
specified by officials as provided below:
●● Scanned copy of a recent, coloured, passport size photograph (size between 50
KB- 150 KB)
●● Scanned copy of the signature (in Royal Blue/ Black colour only) (size between 50
KB- 150 KB)
●● A valid identity proof (preferably Aadhaar Card)
●● All the mark-sheets and certificates (self-attested and scanned) (should not
exceed 500 KB each)
●● Category/ caste/ PwD certificate (if applicable)

Payment of Application Fee:


The NIMCET application form is incomplete without payment of fee, so candidates are
required to pay the prescribed category wise application fee.

Saving and Printing the NIMCET Application Form


●● After successful payment of the NIMCET application fee, candidates can click on
the ‘FINALLY SUBMIT’ button.
●● Next, the completed NIMCET application form will be displayed on the screen in
pdf format.
●● Candidates can download this pdf file, print it out and mandatorily note down the
application number for future reference.

ADMIT CARDS
After conclusion of applications, the authorities release admit cards for candidates
in online mode on the official website. Candidates who are successfully registered
receive their admit cards online which is a must to be carried in the examination hall
for verification purposes. Candidates have to follow a series of steps to download the
NIMCET admit card.

Steps to download NIMCET Admit Card:


1. Visit the official website at nimcet.in.
2. Enter your e-mail ID and password to login.
3. A link to NIMCET admit card will appear on screen, click on it.
4. Download the admit card and take a print out of the same on a clean paper.

EXAM PATTERN
The MCA entrance for NIT is conducted in online mode, where 120 questions are asked
for candidates. These questions are distributed into 4 sections where each section

NIMCET QUALIFYING CRITERIA


The NIT authoritieshave a specified qualifying criteria for MCA entrance, i.e. NIMCET.
Candidates can check below the details related with the qualification criteria of NIM-
CET:

●● The marks obtained by candidates in each subject of NIMCET 2020 question paper
are multiplied as under to make maximum marks 1000 -
a) Mathematics X 3
b) Analytical Ability and Logical reasoning X 1.5
c) Computer Awareness X 2
d) English X 1
●● Those securing higher rank as per the maximum marks in NIMCET result are
ranked higher.
●● In case of tie in marks obtained by two or more candidates, it will be resolved as
under-
a) The one securing higher marks in Mathematics will be ranked higher.
b) If the tie exists further, the one with high marks in logical reasoning will be
ranked higher.
c) If still there is a tie, a candidate who has secured higher marks in computer
awareness section will be ranked higher.
d) In case of further tie, then the candidate elder in age will be given preference.
●● Test-takers, who have obtained zero or negative marks in Mathematics section or
overall, will be disqualified from admissions.

ANSWER KEY
The concerned authorities of NIMCET set 4 codes of the entrance test question paper.
Thus, 4 sets of answer keys are released on the official website of NIMCET that refect
the correct answers to questions asked. This answer key is subject to challenge by
candidates for a limited period. This is followed by an announcement of result along
with final answer key. It may be noted that the final answer key is not subject to chal-
lenge by candidates.

RESULT
The concerned authorities announce result of NIMCET in online mode a few days after
answer key challenge is wrapped. Such challenges are further taken into consideration
and then the result is announced in online mode on the official website. Candidates
have to follow the steps provided below for downloading their entrance result:
1. Visit the official website at nimcet.in
2. Enter the candidate email ID and password
3. Now click on ‘Login’. The screen that follows shall contain a link to NIMCET result
4. Download the result and take prints as well.

COUNSELLING
After declaration of NIMCET result, qualified candidates are required to fill in their
choice of NITs in the order of preference. This is followed by 2-3 rounds of seat allot-
ment based on rank secured and the choice of NITs respectively. Every time a candi-
date is allotted a seat, he/ she has to report in person at the nearest NIT along with all
the requisite documents and pay the admission fee. Candidate representatives are not
allowed at the participating NITs, so the contrary may result in loss of a seat.

SEAT ALLOTMENT
Candidates are allotted seats after NIMCET result based on the rank obtained and
the chhoice of NIT as well. They have to fill in their choices online through candidate
login. Those who are allotted seats in the first two rounds have to pay the initial fee of
Rs 10,000 online which leads to grant of seat allotment letter. This is followed by the
counselling process for admission into MCA course.
