EXTENDED RANGE FORECAST FOR JHARKHAND


(Current weather status & outlook for next two weeks from 28th June, 2024 – 11th July, 2024)

1. Main synoptic features that affected the weather of the state of Jharkhand
(20th June, 2024 – 26th June, 2024):

 The cyclonic circulation at 0.9 km above mean sea level was observed over Assam on
20.06.2024, at 1.5 km above mean sea level over Bihar and adjoining East Uttar Pradesh
on 21.06.2024 and over South Chhattisgarh on 23.06.2024.

 The east-west trough at 0.9 km above mean sea level was persistently seen passing
across Jharkhand and Bihar (close to North Jharkhand) during the past week.

o Under the influence of above systems, isolated to scattered rain/ thunderstorm


accompanied with gusty wind occurred over the state of Jharkhand.

2. Weekly Rainfall Scenario (21st June, 2024 – 27th June, 2024):

Light to moderate rain at isolated to few places occurred during the past week in the state of
Jharkhand. Heavy rain was also observed at isolated places during this period. Cumulatively, the
weekly realized rainfall was 21.3 mm (Departure: -69%) which falls in Large Deficient category.

3. Seasonal Rainfall Scenario (01st June, 2024 to 27th June, 2024):

 During this period, 04 districts received deficient rainfall, 20 districts received large deficient
rainfall. Cumulatively, seasonal rainfall was Large Deficient (Departure -69%) over the state
during the period.

4. Temperature during past week:


 Maximum temperature was observed above normal during the past week. It remained in
the range (31-41) °C over the state.
 Minimum temperature was observed normal to above normal during the past week. It was
observed in the range of (22-30) °C over the state.
5. Chief synoptic conditions as on 27th June, 2024:
o Southwest Monsoon further advanced into remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, Gujarat
State; some more parts of Rajasthan, most parts of Madhya Pradesh; some more parts of
West Uttar Pradesh; Bihar, some parts of East Uttar Pradesh; most parts of Uttarakhand,
Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-KashmirLadakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, some parts of
Punjab today on 27th June 2024.
o The Northern Limit of Monsoon passes through 26.5°N/60°E, 25.5°N/65°E, Barmer, Jaipur,
Agra, Banda, Siddhi, Chaibasa, Haldia, Pakur, Patna, Maharajganj, Dehradun, Una,
Pathankot, Jammu, 33°N/74°E.
o Conditions are likely to become favourable for further advance of southwest Monsoon into
some more parts of Rajasthan; remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West
Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, some more parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chandigarh and some
parts of Haryana, some more parts of Punjab, remaining parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal
Pradesh and Jammu during next 2-3 days.
o A cyclonic circulation lies over north Bangladesh & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean
sea level.
o The cyclonic circulation over westcentral & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal now lies
over northwest & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal and extends upto 5.8 km above
mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.

6. Forecast for next two weeks:


Under the influence of the present synoptic features, dynamical scenario and model guidance –

(i) Rainfall forecast for week 1 (28th June, 2024 – 04th July, 2024) and
Week 2 (05th July, 2024 – 11th July, 2024):

 Week-1:- Scattered to wide spread rainfall is likely over the state. Apart from light to
moderate rain, isolated heavy rainfall is also likely during second half of this week.
Cumulatively, above normal rainfall is predicted for this week.
 Week-2:- Cumulatively, normal rain is predicted over the state during this week.
(ii) Maximum Temperature forecast for week 1 (28th June, 2024 – 04th July, 2024) and
Week 2 (05th July, 2024 – 11th July, 2024)
 Week 1:- Normal to Above Normal maximum temperature is likely to be observed
over most parts of the state. It may lie in the range (30-39) °C during the week.
 Week-2:- The state is likely to witness Normal temperature during this week. It may
lie in the range of (29-35) °C.
(iii) Minimum Temperature forecast for week 1 (28th June, 2024 – 04th July, 2024) and
Week 2 (05th July, 2024 – 11th July, 2024):

 Week-1 : Normal to Above Normal minimum temperature is likely to be observed


over most parts of the state. It may lie in the range (22-28) °C.
 Week 2: Normal to Above Normal minimum temperature is likely to be observed
over most parts of the state during this week also. It may lie in the range (22-28) °C.
