1. ECONOMY
1. RBI has launched Utkarsh 2.0, the second phase of RBI's medium term strategy for
strengthening regulatory and supervisory mechanism. The Vision Utkarsh 2.0 - guide RBI over
the period 2023-25 are: Excellence in performance of its functions. Strengthened trust of
citizens and Institutions in the RBI. Transparent, accountable and ethics-driven internal
governance.

2. According to the annual report of Ombudsman Schemes, released by the RBI, the complaints
received under ombudsman schemes has been increased by 9.39 percent in 2021-22.

3. RBI has selected Six entities for the ‘Test Phase’ under regulatory sandbox for the theme
‘Prevention and Mitigation of Financial Frauds’. Aim: To promote efficiency and bring
benefits to consumers.

4. The Reserve Bank of India has announced that first Sovereign Green Bonds (SGrBs) would be
issued of amount Rs 16,000 crore in two tranches.

5. Kerala state government declared itself as the first state in the country to go fully digital in
its banking service.

6. The World Bank has projected that India’s economy would grow at 6.9% in FY23, compare
to 8.7% in the previous financial year (FY2021/22).

7. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed a frame work for the adoption of an expected
loss for provisioning by banks, instead of an ‘incurred loss’ approach. Presently, banks are
required to make loan loss provisions based on an ‘incurred loss’ approach. Aim: To enhance
the resilience of the banking system. Adopting the forward-looking expected credit loss
approach to estimating loss provisions is likely to result in excess provisions as compared to
a shortfall in provisions.

8. Reserve Bank of Australia has announced that it will remove the portrait of the British
monarchy, Queen Elizabeth II from its $5 banknotes. The new currency notes of the $5 would
feature an Indigenous design rather than an image of King Charles III. The other side of the
note will continue to feature the Australian Parliament. King Charles III, who became British
monarch, is the head of state in Australia, NZ, and 12 other Commonwealth realms outside
the UK.

10. Reliance Retailer has become the first Indian retailer to introduce Central Bank Digital
Currency, also known as the digital rupee.
 The company has piloted the use of the Digital Rupee in one store in Mumbai.
 The launch of this facility was in collaboration with Innoviti Technologies, ICICI Bank, and
Kotak Mahindra Bank.
 The Digital Rupees was first introduced by the RBI on December 1, 2022.
 Initially, It is limited to Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Bhubaneswar

11. SEBI strengthened the framework for Green bonds by introducing the concept of 'blue' and
'yellow' bonds as new modes of sustainable finance.
 Blue bonds: related to water management, and marine sector
 Yellow bonds: pertaining to solar energy
 Green Debt Securities: Debt securities are issued for raising funds that are to be utilized
for projects falling under certain categories.

12. The Reserve Bank of India will launch QCVM in collaboration with a few leading banks. QCVM
(QR Code-based Coin Vending Machine). To improve the distribution of coins.

13. The RBI decided to expand the scope of the TReDS platform allowing the use of insurance
facilities. TReDS (Trade Receivable Discounting System). To boost trade of receivables
increasing cash flows to MSMEs. TReDS is an electronic platform to facilitate the financing of
trade receivables of MSMEs.

14. The provisional figures of Direct Tax collections up to 10th February 2023 continue to register
steady growth with gross collections are at 24.09% higher than the gross collections for the
corresponding period of last year Rs. 15.67 lakh crore.
 Direct Tax collection, net of refunds, stands at Rs. 12.98 lakh crore which is 18.40% higher
than the net collections for 2022.
 It is 91.39% of the total Budget Estimates of Direct Taxes for F.Y. 2022-23.

15. The Reserve Bank of India increased its repo rate by 25 basis points (bps) to 6.50%.
Reason: Core inflation remained high
 The repo rate has now been increased by 250 (225 + 25) bps since May 2022 by the
panel.

 RBI predicted the real GDP growth for FY24 at 6.4%, while growth for FY23 has been
pegged at 7%.
 RBI projected retail inflation at 6.5% (FY23) from 6.7% and 5.3% for the next fiscal
year.

16. Second edition of the global hackathon -- 'HARBINGER 2023 - Innovation for Transformation'
has been announced by the RBI. Theme: Inclusive Digital Services.
 Aim: To develop solutions that have the potential to make digital financial services accessible.
 The RBI has invited innovative ideas in four segments. 1. Differently-abled 2. Facilitate
efficient compliance 3. Extend the reach of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC) 4. Enhance
the scalability of block-chains.

17. EbixCash Limited financial corporation has become the first company in India to launch and
enable Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions for foreign nationals visiting India. It will
offer UPI services to international delegates attending the G-20 summit, being held in India.
This facility will be enabled across all other entry points in the country. It can be extended to
foreign travelers after physical verification of the Passport and Visa of the customers at the
point of issuance.

18. GST Council adopted the Group of Ministers (GoM) report on the GST Appellate Tribunal
with certain modifications.
 The GoM on Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunals was set up under the chairmanship
of Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala in July 2022.
 Suggestions: The tribunals should consist of two judicial members. One technical member
each from the Centre and States, besides a retired Supreme Court Judge as president.

19. GBBC Digital Finance has joined the IOSCO as an affiliate member. IOSCO (International
Organisation of Securities Commissions). GBBC Digital Finance has joined the Affiliate
Members Consultative Committee, which is the 70th member of the committee. This
committee contributes to IOSCO policy and standards development. IOSCO is a global
organization that creates and advocates for global securities standards. It consists of 35
national securities regulators.

20. The first G20 meeting of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors under the G20 Indian
Presidency held from 24-25th of February in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

21. According to an analysis of the latest financial results of public sector banks (PSBs), Bank of
Maharashtra (BoM) has emerged as the top performer in terms of loan growth percentage
during the third quarter of 2022-23.

22. The RBI issued the final guidelines on Interest Rate Risk (IRR) in the Banking Book.
 Banks use this to measure, monitor, and disclose their exposure to IRRBB, which may impact
the capital base and future earnings of lenders.
 The current or prospective risk to banks' capital and earnings arising from adverse
movements in interest rates that affect their banking book positions.
 Excessive IRRBB: Risk to banks' current capital base and/or future earnings

23. Mobicule has launched the industry's first Asset Repossession Solution for banks and NBFCs
named 'mCollect Repossession module'.

24. Indian PM Narendra Modi and Singapore's PM Lee Hsien Loong witnessed the launch of the
crossborder linkage between UPI and PayNow. The launch was done by RBI Governor
Shaktikanta Das and MD of the Monetary Authority of Singapore Ravi Menon. It enables
residents of both countries to transfer cross-border remittances faster and more cost-
efficient.

25. New India Assurance insurance company has become the second domestic insurance
company to launch surety insurance bonds. Surety bond insurance acts as a security
arrangement for infrastructure projects and will insulate the contractor as well as the
principal. These bonds are legally enforceable tripartite contracts that guarantee compliance,
payment, and performance. The issuing insurer provides a guarantee, for a premium, in case
of a default in the execution of a project.

26. According to National Statistical Office (NSO), Rs 1,72,000 is the estimated annual per capita
(net national income) at current prices for 2022-23, showing a growth of around 99% from
Rs 86,647 in 2014-15. However, after adjusting for inflation (constant prices), the per capita
income has risen by approximately 35% from Rs 72,805 in 2014-15 to Rs 98,118 in 2022-23.

27. The World Bank will lend up to $1 billion to India to strengthen health infrastructure sector.
The lending will be divided into two complementary loans of $500 million each. The bank
will support India’s flagship Pradhan Mantri-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission
(PMABHIM) which was launched in October 2021. ➢ The loans will prioritize health service
delivery in seven States - Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu,
and Uttar Pradesh.

28. The All India Home Price Index (HPI), released by the RBI, has recorded a growth (year-on-
year) of 2.79% to 302 in the third quarter (ended December) of 2022-23 as compared with
293.8, despite the rise in interest rates. On a quarter-on-quarter sequential basis, the index
rose from 298, an increase of 1.34%, from September 2022. The Y-o-Y movements in HPI
varied widely across the cities, ranging from a growth of 7.1% (Kochi) to a contraction of 9%
(Jaipur).

29. Signature US based bank has become the second bank in the country after Silicon Valley
Bank to shut down. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has been appointed
as a receiver, which typically means it will liquidate the bank’s assets to pay back its
customers, including depositors and others. The standard insurance amount from FDIC is
$250,000 per depositor, per bank, for each account ownership category.

30. Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and UN Women India launched a new program named.
FinEMPOWER' on 8th March 2023. Note: It is a year-long joint capacity-building program
between BSE and UN Women to empower women toward financial security. BSE and UN 4 |
P a g e Women India collaboratively organized the 'Ring the Bell for Gender Equality'
ceremony to accelerate investment in women leaders and entrepreneurs at BSE. MD and CEO
of BSE: Sundararaman Ramamurthy.

31. The FinMin has tightened the definition of beneficial owners under the anti-money
laundering law, mandating reporting entities to collect information from their clients. Note:
Beneficial Owners: Any individual or group holding 10% ownership (earlier 25%) in the client
of a reporting entity. The reporting entities are banks and financial institutions engaged in
real estate and jewellery sectors. They also include intermediaries in casinos and crypto or
virtual digital assets.

32. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) granted an ‘Infrastructure Finance Company (IFC)’ status to
Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA). Earlier, it was classified as an
Investment and Credit Company (ICC). With the IFC status, IREDA will be able to take higher
exposure in RE financing. It will also help the company to access a wider investor base for
fund mobilization, resulting in competitive rates for fundraising.

33. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has received the approval from Securities & Exchange
Board of India (SEBI) to launch the rupee-denominated NYMEX WTI Crude Oil and Natural
Gas (Henry Hub) futures contracts in its commodity derivatives segment. Earlier, NSE had
signed a data licensing agreement with CME Group allowing NSE to list, trade and settle
rupee-denominated NYMEX WTI Crude Oil and Natural Gas derivatives on its platform. NSE

34. According to the report, released by PhonePe and Boston Consulting Group, India's digital
payments market will more than triple from $3 trillion to $10 trillion by 2026.

35. Women employees constitute over 25% of the total workforce on average in the nationalized
banks in the country. The largest Public Sector Bank-- the State Bank of India (SBI), has 26.7%
women employees in their total staff strength. While Indian Overseas Bank has a maximum
of 36% women staff and the Punjab National Bank has the least 24% women staff strength.

36. The Centre has notified a hike in wage rates up to 10% under MGNREGS for 2023-24,
Haryana having the highest daily wage at ₹357 per day. Madhya Pradesh and
Chhattisgarh the lowest at ₹221. The wage hikes, which range from ₹7 to ₹26, will come into
effect from April 1, 2023. It is a flagship program aimed at enhancing the livelihood security
of households in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment.

37. The government has set a maximum rate of GST compensating cess on pan masala,
cigarettes, and other kinds of tobacco, with the highest rate tied to the retail sale price. The
cess rate was capped as part of amendments to the Finance Bill 2023. According to the
amendment, the maximum GST compensation cess rate for pan masala will be 51% of the
retail sale price per unit, from the current cess charge at 135% ad valorem.

38. NPCI has recommended an interchange fee of up to 1.1% on merchant UPI transactions done
using prepaid payment instruments (PPIs)– wallets/cards–with effect from April 1, 2023. The
charges will be levied on UPI payments of over ₹2,000 made to online merchants, large
merchants, and small offline merchants. However, on certain merchant categories, a lower
interchange starting from 0.5%, might be levied as per applicable caps.

2. IMPORTANT NEWS – INDIA


1. India has sponsored the proposal to designate the year 2023 as International Year of
Millets (IYM). It was accepted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 108th edition of Indian Science Congress. Theme
2023: Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment. The
inaugural ceremony hosted by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) at
its Amravati Road Campus.

3. Ministry of Rural Development under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural
Livelihoods Mission has launched the Prajjwala Challenge with an aim to invite ideas,
solutions and actions that can transform rural economy.

4. The government of India has constituted 17 member, High Powered Committee (HPC) under
the chairmanship of Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai. Reason: To discuss
measures to protect unique culture, language and employment of Ladakh.

5. The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and the Central Council for
Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) have launched ‘SMART’ program. Scope for
Mainstreaming Ayurveda Research in Teaching Professionals (SMART).

6. The ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) has approved the National Green
Hydrogen Mission with an initial outlay of 19,744 crore rupees. Aim: To make India a Global
Hub for production, utilisation and export of Green Hydrogen. Of the Rs 19,744 crore outlay,
17,490 crore for Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition Programme (SIGHT)
programme.

7. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved Central Sector
Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) Scheme with an outlay
of 2,539.61 crore rupees up to 2025-26. Aim: For the infrastructure development of Prasar
Bharati i.e. All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD). At present, Doordarshan operates 36
TV channels including 28 regional channels and All India Radio (AIR) operates more than 500
broadcasting centres.

8. India hosted a special 'Voice of Global South Summit' virtually from 12-13th January 2023.
Theme: Unity of Voice, Unity of Purpose.

9. The Indian High Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to


establish a Hindi Chair at Sabaragamuwa University, in Sri Lanka.

10. PM Narendra Modi launched the World’s Longest River Cruise-MV Ganga Vilas in Varanasi,
Uttar Pradesh. He has also inaugurated Tent City at Varanasi. It will begin its journey from
Varanasi to Dibrugarh in Assam via Bangladesh. It will sail around 3,200 km in 51 days. It will
cover major cities of India and Bangladesh - Patna (Bihar), Sahib Ganj (Jharkhand), Kolkata
(WB), Dhaka (Bangladesh), and Guwahati (Assam).

11. The Godavari estuary in Andhra Pradesh has become a prime and safe habitat for the Indian
skimmer (Rynchops albicollis). Indian Skimmers were sighted in the southern part of the
Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary (Andhra Pradesh) in a day during the Asian Waterbird Census-
2023. Indian Skimmer migrates to the Godavari estuary for feeding. It is found in the coastal
estuaries of western and eastern India. IUCN status: Endangered.

12. A ‘Soul of Steel’ challenge was launched in Uttarakhand that aimed to test one’s high-
altitude endurance. The general area of the expedition would be the Nanda Devi National

Park. The challenge is an initiative of CLAW Global and is being supported by the Indian
Army. The idea behind Soul of Steel is pooling of skill sets and creating a challenge that will
unlock the human ability to survive, stabilise and thrive in high altitude areas.

13. Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal launched the MAARG platform. Mentorship,
Advisory, Assistance, Resilience, and Growth (MAARG). The portal will facilitate
mentorship between startups and entrepreneurs across sectors, stages, and functions.

14. India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Panama to enhance
cooperation in the training of diplomat’s. Panamanian Minister has also joined the 17th
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention in Indore.

15. Minister of Youth Affairs, Anurag Singh Thakur has launched the themes, logo, and website
of Y20 summit India. Themes: Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21st Century skills.
Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a way of life. Peace
building and Reconciliation: Ushering in an era of No War. Shared Future: Youth in
Democracy and Governance and Health, Wellbeing & Sports: Agenda for Youth.

16. PM Modi flagged off the Vande Bharat Express train that connects Secunderabad (Telangana)
with Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on 15th January 2023. It will cover a distance of
around 700 km in 8 hours and 30 minutes. It is the eighth Vande Bharat Express. The first
Vande Bharat train was launched in 2019, between New Delhi and Varanasi.

17. Earth Sciences Minister, Dr. Jitendra Singh announced that India will be covered by Doppler
Weather Radar Network by 2025.

18. The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC
MACAY), New Delhi Municipal Council, and Ministry of Culture have organized 'Music in
the Park’ series under the name ‘Shruti Amrut’.

19. Kollam district was declared the country's first Constitution-literate district. It is achieved
through 'The Citizen', a Constitution literacy campaign. This campaign was jointly launched
by the Kollam district panchayat, the District Planning Committee, and the Kerala Institute of
Local Administration. Aim: To provide constitution literacy to 23 lakh citizens belonging to 7
lakh families in the district.

20. The annual meeting of the World Economic Forum started in Davos, Switzerland from 16-
20 January, 2023. The theme of the 53rd annual event is ‘Cooperation in a Fragmented World’.
A range of topics will be discussed at the 2023 meeting - New Energy, Climate Change, Jobs,
Travel and Tourism, Health, Tech, and Banking.

21. The first G20 Health Working Group meeting has started at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

22. First Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group Meeting of G20 will be held
from 9th to 11th Feb Bengaluru.

23. The first Employment Working Group Meeting under the Sherpa track of the G20 will be held
from February 2 to 4 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

24. The first G20 International Financial Architecture Working Group meeting under the G20
Indian Presidency has organized in Chandigarh.

25. The G20 foreign minister meet is scheduled to take place in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi in
March 2023.

26. The first G20 Infrastructure Working Group meeting under G20 India Presidency will be held
on 16-17 January in Pune.

27. Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution has released ‘Endorsements
Know hows!’ guidelines for celebrities, influencers, and virtual influencers on social media
platforms. Aim: To ensure that individuals do not mislead their audiences. It also ensures that
they are in compliance with the Consumer Protection Act 2019. Endorsements must be made
in simple terms such as "advertisement," "sponsored," or "paid promotion" can be used.

28. Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has organized a 5 km marathon named ‘Run for Life’ from
Pashupatinath Temple premises in Nepal.

29. Twenty-One unnamed islands of Andaman & Nicobar was named after Param Vir Chakra
awardees on January 23, 2023. He has also unveiled the model of the National Memorial
dedicated to Netaji, to be constructed on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep (earlier known
as Ross Islands).

30. The world’s first intranasal COVID-19 vaccine ‘iNNCOVACC’ developed by Bharat Biotech
International Limited (BBIL) in collaboration with Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance.
According to the statement of the ministry, the intranasal COVID-19 vaccine is to receive
approval for the primary 2-dose schedule and as a heterologous booster dose.

31. Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has launched a massive District Outreach
Progarmme "Nidhi Aapke Nikat 2.0".

32. Asia's second and country's first cable suspension bridge "Bajrang Setu" is being constructed
in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. It will be completed by July 2023. This bridge is coming up next
to the famous 90-year-old Laxman Jhula.

33. Atal Innovation Mission and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have collaborated
with Intel India to bring a change in the education sector. They will embed future skills such
as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Tinkering in the formal curriculum.

34. India and South Africa signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce 12
African Cheetahs annually over the next eight to ten years. An initial batch of 12 cheetahs
will be flown from South Africa to India in February 2023.

35. Election Commission of India (ECI) has hosted the 2nd International Conference in New
Delhi, the theme of Use of Technology and Elections Integrity. The conference was
inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar. Around 43 Participants from 17
Countries including Angola, Argentina, Australia, Croatia, Indonesia, Mauritius, Nepal,
Philippines, and Suriname have joined the conference.

36. The 30th National Child Science Congress was organized in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It is being
organized at Science City. Focal theme: Understanding Ecosystem for Mental and Wellbeing.
The program is being hosted by the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology, the Gujarat
Council of Science City, and SAL Education.

37. 15th of the BRICS summit will be held in Durban, South Africa in August 2023. It was
announced by the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov in a joint conference with Foreign
Minister of the State of Eritrea Osman Saleh in Massawa, Eritrea. The fifth annual BRICS
summit was held in Durban, South Africa in 2013. BRICS: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South
Africa.

38. Union Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh has launched Geospatial
Hackathon to promote Innovation and Start-Ups in India’s Geospatial ecosystem. It was
jointly launched by the Survey of India, the Ministry of Science and Technology, IIIT
Hyderabad, and Microsoft India. There will be two sets of challenges - (1) Research Challenge
and (2) Start-Up Challenge.

improves crop productivity, soil health, and the nutritional quality of produce.

46. Government has set up a task force under the aegis of the Fertiliser Association of India to
improve the quality of SSP fertilizer (Single Super Phosphate). To promote its use as an

88. The government is planning to set up 10 ‘Clean Plant Centres’ to boost the domestic

111. The Ministry of Jal Shakti had constituted a Committee to identify 75 Water Heritage
Structure (WHS) in reference to 75 years of India's Independence. A total of 421 nominations
were received and out of which, Committee has recommended 75 water heritage structures.
It includes 5 WHS from Gujarat and 4 WHS from Andhra Pradesh. At present, there is no
central fund allocated/disbursed for the maintenance of these sites.

112. India and Australia signed an audio-visual coproduction agreement to offer


filmmakers financial incentives amounting to up to 30% of the expenditure incurred in the
respective countries. Australia is the 16th country with which India has a co-production
agreement. It would benefit mainly small filmmakers keen on shooting movies in that
country.

113. India and the US inked an initial pact on increasing private-sector cooperation in
the area of semiconductors. The two countries would facilitate business opportunities and
develop an ecosystem with a view to reducing their dependency on China and Taiwan. Both

124. According to the annual Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) Report 2021-22,

34. Tamil Nadu has notified Thanthai Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary as the 18th wildlife sanctuary in
the state. It is spread over 80,567 hectares in the forest areas of Anthiyur and
Gobichettipalayam taluks in Erode district. It is close to Malai Mahadeshwara wildlife
sanctuary, BRT Wildlife Sanctuary, and Cauvery wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka. It also acts as
a connecting point between Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve and Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary.

35. Rajasthan becomes the first state in India to pass the 'Right to Health (RTH) Bill'. Under this
bill, private hospitals will not be able to charge emergency patients and will be compensated
by the state. Free healthcare services including diagnostics, drugs, emergency transport,
emergency care, and procedure will be provided at public institutions.

Rushikonda beach and RK Beach have become a danger to the beach visitors. They have set
up equipment to identify Rip currents to warn marines and local police. Rip currents are
common at all beaches across the globe. People can enter the waters in rip current zones up

2. Space start-up Digantara has launched its second satellite Pushan-Alpha as rideshare
onboard SpaceX’s Transporter-6 mission from Cape Canaveral in Florida, US. The satellite will

16. Australian National University's researchers are trying to reveal the fifth layer of the
Earth. Seismic waves generated by earthquakes have revealed new insights about the
deepest parts of Earth’s inner core. The team believes that presented evidence of a distinct
layer inside Earth known as the innermost inner core. This layer is a solid ‘metallic ball’ that

17. ISRO has successfully conducted the flight acceptance hot test of the CE-20 cryogenic engine

planned duration of 25 seconds at the High Altitude Test Facility. The engine will power the

28. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched India's Launch Vehicle Mark
(LVM) 3 -M3 satellite with 36 satellites of the One Web India-2 mission from the second
launch pad from Sriharikota. With this launch, OneWeb will have 616 of its satellites in
orbit. The 43m-tall launch vehicle has successfully completed the three stages in the
prescribed time limit including the involvement of the ignition of the cryogenic engine.

29. Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) Researchers have developed a three
dimensional (3D) paper-based portable device. This device can detect adulteration in
milk within 30 seconds. The test could be even performed at home. It can detect multiple
substances commonly used as adulterating agents including Urea, detergents, soap, starch,
hydrogen peroxide, sodium-hydrogen-carbonate, and salt, among others.

1. Geographical Indication (GI) tag to Mithila Makhana, of Bihar. It is a special variety of aquatic
fox nut that cultivated in Mithila region of Bihar and Nepal.

2. Tamil Nadu state got the Geographical Indication tag for Narasingapettai Nagaswaram
under the category of musical instruments of class 15.

3. The first ever consignment of GI-tagged Kashmiri carpets with quick response (QR) code with

4. Kangra Tea brand of Himachal Pradesh is likely to win the European Union Geographical
