 Our Legacy
Almost two decades ago, when the waste management sector started becoming a viable large-scale industry
in India, the Indian government set up the basic set of guidelines and rules related to municipal sewage
waste (MSW) processing. During that time, concerned about the growing environmental pollution and
exploring different technologies and opportunities to create solutions for treating MSW in an environmentally
responsible manner. Most importantly, he started with the goal of creating valuable resources out of waste.
After studying the various technologies and waste management solutions present across the globe, the core
philosophy of Organic Recycling Systems Ltd. (ORS) was born.

and Each waste fraction deserved to be treated as a unique resource”

Based on these philosophies, ORS constructed and set up the first of its kind large-scale MSW processing
plant in Solapur in 2013. The integrated MSW processing plant in Solapur was the first in India with the ability
to segregate waste into organic and inorganic fractions. The organic waste was processed with our natively
developed and patented DRYAD ™ technology, which used the biological process of thermophilic
biomethanation to produce biogas and fertilizers as products out of organic waste. With its current capacity,
Solapur Plant can treat 400 tonnes of waste per day (TPD) and produce 3.60 MW of electricity using biogas
as well as 60-80 tonnes of fertilizers per day.

Over the past decade, ORS has worked on dozens of waste management and processing projects,
each with its unique technological requirements. Through our years-long operational experience in
the waste management sector, ORS has developed MSW processing technologies to increase
profitability for the stakeholders and reduce the impact of waste on the environment.

Suhas Bhand
Suhas Bhand has 43 years of experience in Environmental
Management, Risk Assessment, and Disaster Management with
special focus on waste water treatment and urban waste
management. Mr. Bhand has spent 16 years in the public sector at
various senior positions with various Government Institutions.

With the waste management guidelines being formulated in the

country in late 90’s and given his passion towards developing
innovative technologies. He started advising on environment
management practices to industries and was part of many national
and international committees on waste management. A visionary, he
has been associated with ORS through its inception for developing
technologies and sustainable solutions for ever increasing waste
problem of the country and is involved in guiding the team through
technology development to its implementation.

Introduction
Organic Recycling Systems Ltd. (ORS) is one of India’s premier waste
India’s Oldest
management solutions companies with more than 14 years of operational
and business experience in the waste sector. In 2013, ORS set up the Operating Facility
first of its kind, large-scale municipal solid waste treatment and
processing plant in Solapur, Maharashtra based on our patented DYRAD
™ technology as a demonstration unit. Since its inauguration, the Solapur
MSW plant has been operational and is capable of processing up to 400
tons per day (TPD) of waste,wherein the msw is sgergeated into
inorganic and orgnaic frcation. The organic fraction is is then converted
into biogas and high-quality fertilizers. The biogas produced can be used
as a source to generate electricity or simply as a form of fuel. The non-
organic waste such as plastic, metal, etc, can be segregated and used for
other purposes such as recycling , co-processing.

The success behind the large-scale operational capability of the Solapur

plant lies in the innovative scientific approach that ORS implemented
during the construction of the MSW plant. In our mission to build
sustainable and environmentally friendly scientific waste processing
solutions, we have created the natively developed and patented
DRYAD™ technology. The DRYAD™ Anaerobic Digester Technology is
based on the biological process of thermophilic biomethanation, under
which waste is converted into biogas quickly and efficiently, leaving
fertilizer as a by-product with no pathogens
