Diwali Door Hanging Decoration

You will need:

• Coloured A4 paper: green, pink,
purple, yellow and orange
• String
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Ruler
• Glue
• Sticky tape

1) First, take a piece of purple paper and carefully cut it

in half.

2) Next, take one half of the purple paper and make an

accordion fold starting at the short edge . This involves
repeatedly folding your paper back and forth to make
multiple panels of a similar size.

3) Continue making the accordion fold until you reach the

other side of the paper.

4) Add a strip of glue along one side of the accordion fold

then fold it in half so the glue is in the centre of the fold.

5) Unfold the halved accordion fold. The glue should secure

two of the edges together so you are left with a semi-circle.
This creates the base of one diya.

6) Draw a flame shape on the yellow paper.

Draw a slightly smaller flame shape on the orange paper.

7) Carefully cut out the yellow and orange flames.

8) Add a dab of glue to the orange flame and stick it on top

of the yellow flame.

9) Cut a short rectangle from the spare yellow paper and

fold it in half. This will be used to secure the flame to the
diya base.

10) Add a dab of glue to one half of the folded rectangle

and stick it to the top of the diya base.

11) Add a dab of glue to the other half of the folded

rectangle and stick the flame to it.

12) Repeat Steps 1-11 to produce six diya lamps. We made

two pink, two green and two purple diyas.

13) Cut three lengths of string measuring approximately

80cm.

14) Lay out the strings and position the six diya lamps
across the three strands. We alternated the colours and
positions of the diya lamps.

15) Attach the string to the back of each of the diya with a
piece of sticky tape.

16) You could then tape each string onto your door to
create a beautiful Diwali door hanging decoration.
