 Chapter 3 – Design Dimensions

The bed frame featured in this book is a Queen Size bed

frame. However, this design is suitable for a Full Size, King Size,
and California King Size bed frame as well.

The following diagrams depict the dimensions for Full,

Queen, King, and California King Size bed frames. See the Table on
the following page for member sizes based on your desired frame
size.

The following diagram depicts the adjustable bed frame in

the “UP” position.

 Chapter 4 – Assembly

Step 1. Lay the side frame members and legs on a flat surface.

Step 2. Drill, glue, and screw (#8 x 3-In Coarse Thread Drywall
Screws) the frame sides together (end frame members inside of
side frame members).

Note: At this point, the bed frame is “upside down”.

Step 3. Continued… Drill, glue, and screw (#8 x 3-In Coarse
Thread Drywall Screws) the frame sides together (end frame
members inside of side frame members).

Note: The bed frame is still “upside down”.

Step 4. Measure each diagonal; adjust so they are equal to make
the frame square.

Note: The bed frame is still “upside down”.

Step 5. Screw temporary blocking at corners to hold frame square.

Step 6. Layout legs at each corner.

Step 7. Attach legs with glue and 2 - #8 x 2 ½–In and 2 - #8 x 3-In
Coarse Thread Drywall Screws.

Step 12. Attach center support, flush with frame bottom, with glue
and 6 to 8 #8 x 2 ½–In Coarse Thread Drywall Screws each side.

frame members with #8 x 2 ½–In Coarse Thread Drywall Screws
on 6-In centers. The support railing is a 2-In x 2-In ripped to 1-In
thickness.

Note: Support railing was attached to the head end frame member
later on during assembly. You could go ahead and attach it now if
you prefer rather than waiting.

Step 14. Foot end - attach support railing along bottom of side
frame members with #8 x 2 ½–In Coarse Thread Drywall Screws
on 6-In centers. The support railing is a 2-In x 2-In ripped to 1-In
thickness.

Note: Support railing was attached to the foot end frame member
later on during assembly. You could go ahead and attach it now if
you prefer rather than waiting.

 Chapter 6 – Materials

Following is a list of the individual wood bed frame

members and the recommended type of wood material to be used.
Refer to Chapter 3 for an illustration of the letter designations below.

I live in Northern California, and these are the materials that

were readily available to me at the local Home Depot/Lowe’s. The
species of wood that you use may differ based on your geographic
location. Do not worry, most any kind of wood will work, as long
as it is clean, straight, and free of excessive defects.
