platform, safety harness must be worn and attached.

7. When using safety harness always hook the lifeline a meter above the head with a
firm member.

8. Keep the working platform always clear from the obstacle to prevent the tripping
hazard.

9. While working in man basket use safety harness and hook the lifeline with the
crane hook

10. Do not walk over the wall structural members, etc, which is not having handrails

11. When there is heavy wind stop the lifting activity and working at height.

Rigging and Lifting

1. Prior to use the lifting tackles (nylon belt sling “D” shackle, wire rope, etc.) Ensure its good
condition and colour coded.

2. Prior to use the lifting gears (chain block, pull lift, hook chuck, etc.) Ensure its good condition
and colour coded.
3. When damages are noticed in the lifting tackle, do not use and consult with lifting supervisor or
HSE Personnel.
4. Everyday crane operator must check the condition of the crane and the function of its safety
devices.

must use red jacket.
6. Operator must ensure that the banks-man stays always to his sight, in order to observe his
signals clearly.
7. When the crane is placed on the roadside; caution barrier to be provided around the crane, to
prevent unwanted entry.
8. Priors to engage the lifting tackles assess the lifting capacity with the lifting load.
9. Ensure that the slings are engaged properly and no possibility of the load slippage.
10. Use adequate length and size of tag line while lifting the load to control the awkward
movements.

Noise
1. Acceptable noise (sound) level is 85db for the 8 hours duration.
2. Where noise level is exceeds 85db you must wear ear protection (earplug).
3. Always keep 3 mtr. away from any welding generator, as its noise level is more.
4. If you need to work very close to, or within 3mt radius of the welding generator wear ear protection.
5. Rock breakers are producing high-level noise up to the radius of 12mtr. (More than 85db).
6. Always try to be 12mt. away from any rock breaker / excavator.
7. If you need to work within 12mt radius to the rock breaker wear ear protection.
8. Where high noise area / ear protection area is posted, follow the signs and wear ear protection within that
area.
9. Operators on the rock breaker / excavator must use ear protection (ear muff / ear plug).
10. Supervisor / foreman must ensure that their workers are provided with and use ear protection when it is

EYE PROTECTION

We have to wear eye protection of some kind on the job for each of these jobs a certain kind of
eye or face protection is needed.

You know that ultraviolet and infrared radiation from welding can harm. Metal/Abrasive
particles from grinding wheel can injure the eyes.

People frequently make excuses for not wearing their goggles or other eye protection.

Another reason often given for not wearing goggles is that they cause headaches you probably
need prescription glasses.

So wear your goggles and other eye protection as you have been instructed. Make sure they fit
and they can be fitted so that they will be comfortable.

There is one more thing you should always bear in mind when it comes to protecting your
eyes if you get some thing in your eye, don’t try to treat it yourself get first aid right away.

Basic Steps in Safe Rigging

1. Know the weight of the load. This is a must.

2. Never guess the weight of a load.
3. Choose the correct lifting tackle / lifting belt.
Lifting Belt must not be damaged.
Make sure the safe working load (SWL) is correct.
4. Check the lifting tackle is certified. It must display the correct colour code and
identification number.
5. Attach the tackle to the load using the correct hitch.
6. For 2 leg slings use the choker hitch.
7. Ensure the sling angles are correct so both the slings bear the same load.
8. Lift the load approximately 12” from the ground and check the center of
gravity. If not level land the load and re rig. Use tag lines to control the load.
Hanging load must not be held with bare hands.
9. Always prepare the landing site. Place suitable wooden packings before off-
loading any material.
10. Lift the load from one point to another using the correct hand signals.
