during product development. Mechanical testing in-
corporates a wide range of techniques, from common
tensile, flexure and torsional characterization. Tensile
testing is a destructive test process that provides in-
formation about the tensile strength, yield strength and
ductility of the material. It measures the force required
to break a test specimen and the extent to which the
specimen stretches or elongates to that breaking point.
Universal materials testing machines, capable of con-
ducting static or monotonic tests in tension or com-
pression, play a vital role in product development and
quality control of materials and components. The abil-
ity of such equipment to provide raw data which can
be utilised by design engineers, is essential in the de-

materials testing machines to determine durability with
regard to fatigue life and fatigue limit, for example for
fatigue testing to DIN 50100 (S-N curve) under tensile,
compression, pulsating and alternating loads. The new
generation of machines can be used as both dynamic
and full-fledged static materials testing machines that
can accommodate test loads up to 1000 kN. Typical
applications are material fatigue tests and durability
tests on standardized specimens and components (for
example, piston rods, crankshafts and fasteners) and

to dynamic loads during their anticipated service lives.

Both in terms of time and costs, a general overhaul
can be worthwhile for all Jouhsen-

chine costs just 60-70% of the cost of a
new one,” explains Jouhsen-bündgens
Managing Director Dr. Peter Renz.
Realistically, companies need to plan
around three to six months in advance
to procure the necessary parts. The
overhaul itself generally takes around
four to six weeks. Renz continues, “Af-
ter this, the customer gets a machine
that is good as new and has another 20
to 30 years of service ahead of it, all in
record time.”

With their basic structure made from
solid steel and cast metal, Jouhsen-

the guides, lubrication system and
controls in particular can all suffer
over the course of their service lives.
Motors and drives can become worn,
or sensors can stop working properly.
A retrofit can address all these issues.

Features
The modular design of the FB series machines provides greater flexibility in
production, allowing for either roller feeding or gripping feeding mecha-
nisms. Furthermore, the feeding direction can be adjusted to suit the
production requirements.
FB series machines are capable of high-speed production while maintaining
precise parts dimensions. Additionally, they consume less material
compared to traditional pressing machines, making them a more environ-
mentally-friendly and cost-effective solution.

Technical Trends
Trends in straightening devices and S&C machines
include fast changeovers from one diameter or length
to another, higher precision and speed, multiple wire
operation and improved drive and/or PLC controls.
Additional developments include the following:
• Production of single and double butted spokes.
• Mirrored machine setups (left and right-handed
straightening machines placed together).
• Rotor straightening system technology.
• Integrated functions.
• In-line diagnosis of wire quality and size.
• Modular design of components for simplified up-
grades and changes in capabilities.
• User-friendly adjustments and quick changeovers.
