LESSON: Revision (L2)

TYPE OF LESSON: Combined/systematization and revision - Listening

LESSON AIMS:

1. To create a pleasant atmosphere


2. To create interest in the topic

ASSUMPTIONS: Students might not know about Mr. Bean

SUGGESTED SOLUTION: The teacher will ask one of the students with a better knowledge
of pop culture to describe Mr. Bean

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:

1. Students might find new lexical items in the text.

2. Students might have trouble writing the correct progressive form of certain verbs.

SOLUTIONS:

1. The teacher will ask students who are good with vocabulary to translate the words into
their native language or will give a synonym in English (*draw on the blackboard).

2. The teacher will ask Ss. with a better knowledge of English to act as "mini teachers"
and correct the errors.

WARMING-UP

AIMS: 1, 2, 3

PROCEDURE:

- T. greets the Ss. and checks if the Bb. is clear and if the date is written

- T. checks the attendance list by asking a S. to name the absents

- T. checks the homework (“Write an e-mail.”)

- T. introduces the topic of the lesson by means of an attractive sentence

- T. writes the title of the lesson on the Bb. (“Revision”) and states the objectives

INTERACTION: T-Ss., Ss. - T

TIMING: 5’
PRE-LISTENING:

AIMS: 3, 4, 5, 6

PROCEDURE:

- T. engages several Ss. in a short game ("The Raffle" - see Handout 1)

- The rest of the Ss. are asked to come up with original and fun answers

- Errors are corrected by the students with the help of the teacher

INTERACTION: T.-Ss.; Ss-Ss.; Ss.-T.

TIMING: 10’

EXTENSIVE LISTENING:

AIMS: 5, 7

PROCEDURE:

- T. gives the Ss. a handout with lyrics and an exercise (see Handout 2) and briefly
explains the task. (see below)

- Ss. listen to the song “Lemon Tree” by Fool's Garden and correct the lyrics from the
handout by means of choosing the correct word, filling the gaps or correcting the
mistakes.

- T. checks the answers and gives new vocabulary items ( "to waste time", "to hang
around", "to happen", "to wonder", "to miss", "isolation", "anyhow")

- T. asks the Ss. for the correct -ing spelling of several verbs from the text ("waste, step")

INTERACTION: T.-Ss., Ss.-T.

TIMING: 10’

INTENSIVE LISTENING:

AIMS: 5, 6, 7, 8

PROCEDURE:

- Ss. listen to the song again and sing the chorus

- Ss. are grouped in pairs and solve the exercise from the handout

- Ss. post their "lemons" on the flipchart and are encouraged to read their examples. T.
encourages the Ss. to correct possible grammar, spelling or vocabulary mistakes. The
most creative answers are written on the flipchart to be copied in the Ss.' notebooks.

TIMING: 15’

POST LISTENING:

AIMS: 5, 6, 7

PROCEDURE:

- Ss. engages the Ss. in a short conversation about the song and asks them if they would
like to watch something different (i.e. introduces the cartoon)

- T. plays the cartoon and describes the activities.

- T. asks the Ss. if there are any misunderstandings on the topic of the lesson.

- T. engages the Ss. in a short conversation about the lesson and asks for feedback. T.
grades the active Ss. and gives feedback to the rest of the class.

- T. gives the homework (Handout 3 - "Mr. Bean's Dream")
