LESSON PLAN
LESSON AIMS:
DIDACTIC STRATEGIES:
SUGGESTED SOLUTION: The teacher will ask one of the students with a better knowledge
of British, American and Irish culture to briefly describe the holidays.
ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:
2. Students might have trouble writing the correct past form of certain verbs.
SOLUTIONS:
1. The teacher will give a synonym or definition in English or will ask students who are
good with vocabulary to translate the words into their native language.
2. The teacher will ask Ss. with better knowledge of English to act as "substitute
teachers" and correct the errors.
WARMING-UP
AIMS: 1, 2, 3
PROCEDURE:
- T. greets the Ss. and checks if the Bb. is clear and if the date is written
- T. checks the homework (“Summarize chapter 4 of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”)
- T. introduces the topic of the lesson by means of a catchphrase spoken in an Irish accent ("Top
o' the mornin' to ya', buys!" - "Good morning to you, boys!") and asks the Ss. if they know what it means.
- T. writes the title of the lesson on the Bb. (“St. Patrick's Day”) and states the objectives

PRE-READING:

PROCEDURE:
- T. shows the class several pictures of holidays (ANNEX 1) and asks the Ss. to identify
them.
- T. engages the Ss. in a short conversation about holidays (e.g."What did you do last
Christmas?").

EXTENSIVE READING:
AIMS: 5, 7
PROCEDURE:
- The Ss. are grouped into 5 teams (the Ss. with difficulties will be divided among them).
Each group has to choose a name and a leader. Ss. are encouraged to choose funny group
names related to the previously taught vocabulary items (e.g. "The Boiling Kettle", "The
Ironing Man" etc.)
- The Ss. are asked to solve the tasks on the first page.
- The leaders are asked to state the answers of their respective teams and justify them.
TIMING: 10’
INTENSIVE READING:
AIMS: 5, 6, 7, 8
PROCEDURE:
- Ss. are asked to solve the tasks from the second page and to write examples with the
irregular verbs on a sheet of paper. The best ones will be written in the notebooks.
- T. writes the new words ("patron", "descendants", "was born", "slave", "field") on the Bb.
and asks the Ss. for the Romanian translation or supplies them with an English
definition/example.
- T. appreciates the Ss.’ answers
