 Class, I want you to listen for a short scenario.
Scene: John saw a pretty girl. He went to talk to her. Her husband arrived. The
husband hit John on the nose.
Questions:
1. What did the husband do? (The husband hit John on the nose.)
2. What happened to John? (John’s nose was hit by the husband.)
D. Lesson Proper
Voice – is the quality of a verb that shows whether the subject is the doer or
receiver of the action.

ACTIVE VOICE – is used to indicate that the subject of the sentence is the doer of
the action.
Examples:
 The boy kicked the ball.
 The dog ate the bone.
PASSIVE VOICE – is created when the subject is acted upon.
Examples:
 The ball was kicked by the boy.
 The bone was eaten by the dog.
E. Application
Instruction: Change the sentences below to the active voice.
1. I was taught by my brother the principles of barbecuing.
2. My father was given the title by the former president.
3. The flat tire was changed by Sue.
4. The Novel was read by my mom in one day.
5. The entire house was painted by Tom.
Answer:
1. My brother taught me the principles of barbecuing.
2. The former President gave the title to my father.
3. Sue changed the flat tire.
4. My mom read the novel in one day.
5. Tom painted the entire house.
F. Generalization
Can we say that a sentence is in the active or passive voice?
How will you change the active to passive?
(A verb that has a direct object is in the active voice. If the acted upon, the verb is in
the passive voice. In changing a sentence from active to passive, the direct object
becomes the subject or doer in the by-phrase.)
G. Evaluation
Instruction: write A if the sentence is in the active voice, P if the sentence is in the
passive voice.

B. Instruction: rewrite each sentence by changing the verb from active to passive

Instruction: Write a brief description of an art or painting of Fernando
