AWARE TRACERS

Introduction:
 Founded in 2020 by two Dutch sustainability experts, Aware is a global startup that develops
Digital Product Passports (DPP) for the fashion and textile industry, making greenwashing a thing
of the past and restoring consumer’s trust in sustainability claims.
 It connects the end-to-end supply chain and secure material and data transactions.

What is AWARE TRACER Technology?

Traceability and recycling are latest and hot trends in textile manufacturing. The traceability and
recycling are useless until we exactly know about the right composition of the fabric and the claims are
validated by some solid evidence. In the past, brands kept details about their supply chains confidential,
either to protect trade secrets or not to disclose details about their business practices.

In the current age, revealing one’s sustainability and adherence to global standards can give a brand
competitive advantage over others. Most of the companies have deployed certification and rating
system to show their adherence to certain standards and sustainability but a certification or rating does
not necessarily guarantee that the brand is completely transparent.

Aware tracers’ technology can help rebuild trust in sustainability claims. Aware enable transparency by
using block chain and tracer technology instead of the widely used certification systems (which are
hierarchical, private, open to fraud, and for the most part still manual), allowing fashion consumers to
access detailed information about the product’s journey from start to finish and helping them make
more meaningful choices that align with their values and requirements.

With Aware, cheating and greenwashing is a thing of the past. With Aware, traceability and recyclability
come together.

Need for AWARE Tracers Technology:

Clothing production has been doubled between 2000 and 2015, while the life span of garments shrank.
Some clothes are discarded after only 7 to 10 wears. One cotton T shirt requires 2700 liters (713 gallons)
of water for its processing. Keeping in view the scarcity of water and other resources, recycling of textile
products is need of the hour. Recycling is of core importance for sustainability of the textile industry as
the world is facing severe environmental challenges like global warming, water scarcity, depletion of
natural resources, lower agricultural yields etc.

The consumers of developed countries have also realized this situation and the majority of consumers in
developed countries are willing to take sustainable action, but they struggle with how to distinguish
sustainable clothes from unsustainable ones. Brands can accelerate and capitalize on this huge
opportunity by increasing transparency to reduce the information gap and develop trust.
It is believed that global legislations will be the most important drive and force towards more
sustainable textiles and as per several legislations, a digital product passport (DPP) will be mandatory for
each piece of sustainable fashion. Such regulations will make a real change in textile industry. With the
Aware Virtual ID (DPP), brands will comply with this legislation and give true information and
transparency to consumers for them to make a conscious choice. A win/win/win situation for the brand,
the consumer, and the earth is established as impact savings are really made. Aware is the world’s first
traceability solution uniting physical tracer and public block chain technology. Aware connects the
exchange of sustainable materials and data. The widely used transaction certificate systems are
disputable, as there is no connection between the materials and the data.

Methodology of AWARE Tracers Technology:

The Aware technology has to be integrated into every single step within a supply chain. From the fiber
producer to the yarn producer to the fabric producer to the final product producer to the brand.

The Aware technology has two components:

1-AWARE TRACERS:

It is added to the sustainable raw material and is scanned by each producer when they receive the
materials in their warehouse. Each scan moment creates a flow of evidence that the original sustainable
materials have been used, and not have been swapped during production and/or transportation. Each
scan date is added to the digital twin of the product.

2- DIGITAL TWIN:

It is a digital representation of the physical sustainable material. Each producer creates a digital twin of
the material they produced from the sustainable material. It has specification of a yarn, a fabric, or a
final product. The unit of a digital twin is an Aware token (1 token = 1 kg). Each Aware token is
inseparably connected to the digital twin and registered on a public blockchain. Each Aware token is
sent from producer to producer (like the physical material) and connected to a product line of a
purchase order by the final product producer. From that moment, any consumer can scan with a QR
code all data stored on blockchain.
DESCRIPTION:
Aware is a Web3 and blockchain-based trusted claim validation platform that leverages innovative
technologies to address the product’s traceability and verifiability issues. Aware guarantees that final
products are formed from genuine sustainable materials. It provides a true story of the journey from
raw materials to the final product using a decentralized, tamper-proof blockchain.

The blockchain is the distributed ledger utilized to record transactions across several nodes. The data
stored on the ledger can’t be altered, destroyed, or deleted. Aware is developed on a publicly
distributed ledger that provides an indisputable record of all the transaction data related to shipment
status, material composition, etc.

To re-establish trust between the brands and the consumers, a unique fingerprint, the Aware tracer, is
added to the original sustainable raw material. This tracer is scannable using inline sensors throughout
the journey from material to the final product. Also, a “Digital Twin” of the same original material is
developed on the Aware digital platform, which is registered over the public blockchain and stores all
the data of the product, including social compliance, facility impact savings, etc.

Aware grants a self-validation certificate to the producers whenever they create a material or product
on the platform. It enables transaction tracking along the course in a digital, standardized, and scalable
manner. It provides a highly functional dashboard where the status of materials and goods is visible as
they move through the supply chain. All data is readily available when the products hit the market. The
customer can easily scan and get the complete lifecycle of the product with other details.
AWARE FEATURES:
1- End-to-End Supply Chain Traceability:
Aware facilitates visibility within the global supply chain, allowing businesses to increase
effectiveness and manage risks, enabling consumers to make more responsible decisions.
2- Scan & View The Complete Product History:
Using two-dimensional barcodes, discover the rich and eventful history of the supply chain for
the entire production process and ensure product safety.
3- Unique Tracer for Product Authentication:
The Aware tracer is an easily identifiable, special microscopic tracer particle used to assure the
quality that corresponds with the secured digital passport.
4- Exclusive Digital Passport for Each Product:
The Aware unique digital passports contain all the information about the recycled materials
specific to the product. These passports are stored securely on the blockchain, making Aware
recycled material fraud-free.
5- Digital Twin:
The Aware digital twins are the virtual representation of the final product and will span its
lifecycle. These digital twins are updated with real-time information and utilize simulation and
reasoning to support decision-making.
