Overview

This guide was developed to assist field service personnel in shortening the life cycle of a problem, reducing service calls,
preventing erroneous parts replacement, and improving uptime. While every possible scenario cannot be included, some
steps have been outlined for the most common scenarios when experiencing boot-up or rebooting Issues. Note: It is
recommended to review this entire bulletin before starting work on the device.

• At start-up, the progress bar comes to 25% or 50% with the KM logo but will not boot to a ready screen.
• MFP gets to 50% with the KM logo but reboots instead of booting up to the ready screen.
• If a Black Screen is present with data light indicators present.

Understanding the internal boot sequence can help identify the
possible cause of the failed boot process. A Manual Boot
Diagnostics can be run when the device is in one of the states
noted above.
1. Power Off the device for at least 10 seconds.
Power indicator
2. Power on the Main Switch while holding the Sub Power
button on the left side of the control panel.
3. Wait for a beep and the purple Power indicator to light.
4. Release the Sub Power button. Note: Under normal
conditions, the device will finish the boot sequence and then
enter Self Diagnostics Mode.
a. If the Self Diagnostics Mode screen is displayed, press

the Start button when it turns blue. Reference the Service Manual – section 13.12
[Self-diag. (Full/Individual)] and troubleshoot as indicated.
b. If the screen remains black or stalls at a percentage, reference Appendix A of this document for
troubleshooting guidance.
5. Remove all accessories from the main body (DF, Finisher, Fax board, optional paper trays, etc.)
6. Check that the MFP is plugged into a dedicated AC power source or confirm that the voltage supplied is
consistently within spec:

7. Reseat ALL Connectors and ensure that the pin area

connection between the Storage Board and CPU Board is
intact.
8. Check DCPU for all 24V, 12V
and 5V outputs.
9. Load the latest base controller firmware by
holding down the Rear Stop key on the back of
the control panel while booting up the machine.
Always reference the firmware readme file (ex:
README DLKM_xxxxxxxxx)
10. Run the Diagnosis and Recovery Tool
a. Reference Technical Bulletin 13435 - i-Series:
Diagnosis and Recovery Tool for troubleshooting guidance.
b. If board replacement is necessary ensure to follow the service manual section [5.3
Disassembly/Reassembly Boards] for the board replacement procedure.
c. If a Repaired or “Cleansed” CPU board is installed:
i. You will have to flash the machine with the reset tar file a789be.tar to cleanse the board.
ii. The tar file and instructions can be acquired by contacting SSD.
iii. Run 3 times, each time the MFP will populate a “Data Initialization Complete” message.
IMPORTANT: Using the reset tar file will clear consumable/meter counts, stored settings, and
customer data.
Page 3 of 13 Bulletin #: 13472

d. In some instances, it will be required to perform a PARTITION of the Storage board before moving on to
the next step, in which case you can acquire the procedure by calling SSD. IMPORTANT: Partitioning the
Storage board may also clear consumable/meter counts, stored settings, and customer data.

Additional
Reset .tar file
If the reset.tar file is used, the following steps are required via Service Mode to restore functionality:
1. Input the Printer Serial Number: [Service Mode] > [System 1] > [Serial Number].
2. Set/confirm Marketing Area: [Service Mode] > [System 1] > [Marketing Area (also check Fax Area - if installed)].
3. Set Date, Time Zone, and Time: Access the Setup wizard. Select [Reset] if in Service Mode > [Stop > 1 > 1 >4 > 4
> Clear].
4. Set device version: [Service Mode] > [System 2] > [Software Switch Setting] > [Switch 10] > Set to hex “02” > [Fix].
5. Set Function version: [Service Mode] > [System 2] > [Software Switch Setting] > [Switch 25] > Reference the
firmware readme file to identify the correct setting > [Fix].

Example: bizhub C360i

Firmware version G00-P8 > SSW25 = hex “30” (ver. 2.2)

6. Configure the ADF: [Service Mode] > [System 2] > [ADF setting] > select the correct ADF.
7. Configure the Fax option if installed: [Service Mode] > [System 2] > [Option Board Status].
8. Set Storage type to “Storage”: [Service Mode] > [System 2] > [Set Storage Type] > [from MicroSD to “Storage”].
9. Power cycle the device > Check for any warning or error messages.
10. Access “Billing Setting” and check for any License Management errors: [Service Mode] > [Stop > 9]. Errors can be
resolved by “Initializing” the license via the LMS Server interface. [MyKonicaMinolta] > [Service] > [License
Management Server].

11. Load Movie Data. Available from the One-Stop Product Support page.
12. Load PDF/A Font data if a message appears. Available from the One-Stop Product Support page.
13. Load the Loadable Device Driver (LDD) if required.

4. After replacement, insert the USB memory including the firmware into the USB port located on the lower side of the
control panel.
5. Remove the cover at the back of the operation panel.
6. While pressing the “Rear Stop” key, turn ON the main power switch.
7. Once the “●” mark appears in the upper right corner of the screen, release the “Rear Stop” key.
8. When the Firmware Update screen appears, touch [Machine Type Select].
9. Enter [Machine] and [Type], and touch [Fix].
10. Touch [OK].
11. Turn OFF the main power switch, and then remove the USB memory.
12. Turn ON the main power switch.
13. The machine will reboot two times by itself. Wait until the (C-D3C0) trouble code screen appears.
14. [Recover Data] appears on the trouble code screen, touch [Recover Data] to start the recovery of the data.

NEW Storage board replacement – Important firmware update:

1. If the Storage board is replaced, you MUST follow the procedure below to ensure the MFP Controller’s Boot
Program is updated to support the new Storage Board. If the Controller is not up to date, the device will not boot to
ready.
2. Firmware G00-J9 (and later) has an updated version of the MFP Controller Boot program.
3. Load firmware version G00-J9 or later onto a USB memory stick.
4. Connect the USB memory to the firmware USB port on the control panel.
5. Power up while holding the Stop key on the back side of the control panel.
6. Select “Machine Type Select” once the firmware screen is displayed.

7. Enter the following [(1) (7) (2) (9) (3) (8)] using the numbers in the red frame and then select “OK”.
Page 6 of 13 Bulletin #: 13472

8. Select [Boot Rom].

9. Select [Start] to update the Boot ROM.

Page 7 of 13 Bulletin #: 13472

10. Power cycle the device after the Boot Rom update is completed. Note: If the Boot Rom is already up to date, the
display will indicate this. Proceed with the power cycle.

Reference Appendix B for Storage Board identification information.

Contact the SSD call center if the issue is still unresolved.

Recommendations:
• Follow the troubleshooting outline in this bulletin before replacing any parts.
• Retain all parts replaced while troubleshooting. Original parts may need to be reinstalled to resolve the issue.
• Take notes of what the results were for each section of this document.
• Confirm your USB memory stick will load firmware on another functioning i-Series device.
• Additionally:
• Never replace the storage board and CPU board with a new one at the same time.
• Never replace the backup board and CPU board with a new one at the same time.
• When you replace the backup board with a new one, all information including the consumables counter and
settings values will be reset. Therefore, it will require replacement of all consumables with new ones.
• Never use the combination of the used Storage board removed from another machine and the CPU board.
This combination causes corruption of the stored data.
