entitled “Expression Of Like and Dislike” right in the calculated time.

The purpose in writing this paper is to fulfill the assignment that given by Mrs. Novi Rina Dewi
as lecturer in English Education major.
in arranging this paper, the writer trully get lots challenges and obstructions but with help of
many indiviuals, those obstructions could passed. writer also realized there are still many
mistakes in process of writing this paper.

because of that, the writer says thank you to all individuals who helps in the process of writing
this paper. hopefully allah replies all helps and bless you all.the writer realized tha this paper still

1.1 Background of the paper

In learning English, it is known that there are many things that must be studied first, in this
good opportunity we will give you our little knowledge about expression of like and dislike.
The meaning of expression of like and dislike itself is an expression in English that is used to
suggest or express an like and dislike. Let us tell you a lot about this material.

2.1 EXPRESSION OF LIKE AND DISLIKE

A. Meaning

What is expression of Like and Dislike

Like and dislike expressions are expressions or reactions expressed when we like or don't
like something. This is expressing material in English which requires us to express our
likes and dislikes for something.

In this English material, there are two things you can learn, the first is the expression of
like which is used when you want to express your liking. Apart from that, there are also
expressions of dislike which are used to express our dislike for something.

B. Use Of Expressions Of Like And Dislike
Expressions of like and dislike can be used in various situations and contexts. Here are
some common times to use these expressions:
1. When talking about personal preferences for food, drinks or activities.
2. In everyday conversation to express like or dislike a topic or thing.
3. In comments when rating a product, film, book, or service.
4. In discussions or debates to express comments in the form of agreement or
disagreement with a statement.
C. Like and Dislike Sentence Formation Patterns
1. Expression of Like Sentence Formation Pattern
To express like and dislike, there are several sentence patterns that you can use. To
express the expression like, we can use the words like, love, enjoy, crazy, and the
like as predicates (verb) in the sentence.
Pattern:
 Subject + like/likes + object (noun/verb-ing)
 Subject + love/loves + object (noun/verb-ing)
 Subject + to be + crazy about + (noun/verb-ing)
Example:
 I really like artworks. (Aku sangat menyukai karya seni.)
  We love traveling abroad. (Kami mencintai perjalanan ke luar negeri.
 They like watching romantic movies. (Mereka suka menonton film romantis.)
 He/she is very passionate about reading books. (Dia sangat suka membaca buku.)
 I’m crazy about spicy food. (Aku tergila-gila dengan makanan pedas.)
 I really like playing video games. (Aku sangat suka bermain video game.)

2. Expression of Dislike Sentence Pattern

To express dislike, we can use the words dislike, don't like, hate, don't enjoy, and
words that mean not liking something as a predicate.
Pattern:
 Subject + dislike/dislikes + Object (noun/verb-ing)
 Subject + don’t like/doesn’t like + Object (noun/verb-ing)
 Subject + hate/hates + (noun/verb-ing)
Example:
 We dislike rainy weather because it makes commuting difficult. (Kami tidak
menyukai cuaca hujan karena membuat perjalanan sulit.)
 They dislike crowded places. (Mereka tidak suka tempat yang ramai.)
 I’m not fond of public speaking. (Aku tidak terlalu suka berbicara di depan
umum.)
 They dislike crowded places. (Mereka tidak suka tempat yang ramai.)
 We have a strong distaste for dishonesty. (Kami sangat tidak suka dengan
ketidakjujuran.)
 I can’t stand being late. (Aku tidak suka terlambat.)
 We hate it when people cancel plans last minute. (Kita benci kalau orang
membatalkan rencana di menit terakhir.)

and dislike
Example 1
Nina: Did you just eat durian?
Vera: Yes, why?
Nina: Sorry, but I dislike the smell of durian. The smell of durian makes me very dizzy.
Vera: I'm sorry, I didn't know.
Nina: It's okay. Do you mind eating some mouth fresheners?
Vera: I brought eucalyptus candy. Do you like the smell of eucalyptus?
Example 2
Sinta: Do you like K-Pop music, Dela?
Dela: I dislike K-Pop music because I don't understand the language.
Sinta : What music do you like?
Dela: I like Indonesian pop music, like Raisa and Isyana Sarasvati's songs. How about you?
Sinta: I like K-Pop and Japanese songs, because I studied Korean and Japanese.
Dela: Interesting choice.

3.1 CONCLUSION
In everyday life, I'm sure you are often involved in conversations that involve expressions of
likes and dislikes. Asking about your likes and dislikes is important to convey so that you can
understand other people better so that better relationships can be established.
