COURSE TITLE: EMERCENCY CARE IN MIDWIFERY

What is this course about? This course is designed to equip the student midwife with knowledge, skills, and attitude to
diagnose, manage and or refer emergencies in midwifery practice. This includes emergency
management of ectopic pregnancy, premature rapture of membranes, eclampsia, preeclampsia
What are the course objectives By the end of the course, the students’ midwife would be able to;
1. Assess patient in coma for underlying causes.
2. Assess the type of emergency based on history and physical examination.
3. Perform the ABC resuscitation.
4. Discuss the influence of maternal condition on the fetal condition.
5. Assess degree of shock and maternal fetal condition and manage or refer.
6. Identify the causes of any bleeding present.
