Prepare the equipment:
3.1 Clean gloves
3.2 Alcohol swab

3.4 Sterile syringe (10ml)

3.6 Heparin solution (If applicable) (100 units/ 100 NSS)
4 Perform hand hygiene and don non-sterile gloves. DE D O S

5 Prepare 5 ml of heparin 100units/mL flush solution in a 10 mL syringe (If applicable). * DE D O S

6 Scrub adaptor with an alcohol swab for 15 seconds and allow them to air dry. * DE D O S
7 Attach the prefilled saline syringe to the adaptor and open clamp on the extension. * DE D O S
Aspirate for blood return to verify patency. Flush with a total of 5-10 ml (Pedia.) and 10-20 ml
8 (adult) normal saline using the pulsatile flush technique. Clamping during the last mL. Remove the DE D O S
saline syringe. *
9 Flush with 5 mL heparin 100units/mL solution. Clamping during the last ml. Remove syringe. * DE D O S
10 Dispose of supplies and perform hand hygiene. DE D O S
