UniConn Operation Manual Addendum

Subject: Digital Input Start, Hand/Off/Auto
Firmware: 1.200r4; StarView Version 3.000r1

Introduction

This document is to be used in conjunction with UniConn Operation Manual to supplement the
Digital Input Operation sections. This document will explain how to utilize the new Digital Input
control capability enabled in this firmware release, with emphasis on changes and addition to
both the UniConn’s and StarView’s (formerly Wellview) menu structure and how to set them up
using both methods.

Hardware and Setup Requirement

To use the new Digital Input features available in this firmware release, external Hand/Off/Auto
and Start switches are required.

New Features/Control Functionality

The following new features and control functionality are added in this firmware release:

1. Added capability to START UniConn from digital input.

2. Added capability to place UniConn in HAND mode from digital input
3. Added capability to place UniConn in AUTO mode from digital input.

New Digital Input Functions:

Additional functionality has been added to digital inputs. Along with the normal operation, the
capability of START, HAND, AUTO mode and MANUAL OFF is now possible using digital inputs.
The parameter “Digital Input Function:” which is associated with each digital, must be modified to
access these new features. Description of the new features are as follows:

START mode:

• Momentary closure on any input configured for START operation will place the UniConn in
START mode providing the UniConn is in HAND or AUTO mode and no alarms are present.

• If the UniConn is in a lockout condition, activating a START from digital input will first clear
the lockout, a subsequent START from digital input will place the UniConn in START mode.

• Whenever a START from digital input occurs latched alarms are automatically cleared.

• Maintenance Bypass mode can be activated from a digital input configured for START if
held closed more than 5 seconds.

• If digital inputs are used for HAND and AUTO mode selection and there is a requirement
to toggle between these modes, this can be done by holding in START while switching
modes. This however will not work if more than one input is configured for START.

Schlumberger Private
• Once a digital input is configured for START, normal digital operation (Alarming and
Restarting) for that input will be disabled.

• STARTING from the UniConn’s keypad will still be possible when using START from digital
input.

• START from digital input can only be activated by closing the circuit; it cannot be
configured to START on open circuit.

HAND Mode:

• Closing the circuit to an input configured for HAND mode will place the UniConn in HAND
mode and override HAND/AUTO control from the UniConn’s keypad.

• Once a digital input is configured for HAND, normal digital operation (Alarming and
Restarting) for that input will be disabled.

• HAND mode from digital input can only be activated by closing the circuit, it cannot be
configured to activate HAND mode on open circuit

• Only one digital input should be configured for HAND mode.

• When a digital input is configured for HAND mode but not activated (open circuit) and
AUTO mode is not activated by another digital input, the UniConn will be placed in the

MANUAL OFF mode.

AUTO Mode:

• Closing the circuit to an input configured for AUTO mode will place the UniConn in AUTO
mode and override HAND/AUTO control from the UniConn’s keypad.

• Once a digital input is configured for HAND, normal digital operation (Alarming and
Restarting) for that input will be disabled.

• AUTO mode from digital input can only be activated by closing the circuit, it cannot be
configured to activate AUTO mode on open circuit

• Only one digital input should be configured for AUTO mode.

• When a digital input is configured for AUTO mode but not activated (open circuit) and
HAND mode is not activated by another digital input, the UniConn will be placed in
