ARTICLE REVIEW (25%)

Instructions
1. Each group is required to select a key article to be reviewed. You must share
the article with me beforehand in order to get my approval.
2. You are required to prepare a review and summary of article on the operations
of Islamic finance which are available on online database provided by IIUM
library (https://www.iium.edu.my/page/subscribed-online-databases-and-
ebooks).
3. Article should be attained from an academic journal which are within the scope
as follows;
a) Islamic finance operations
b) Current stage development of Islamic banking in particular countries
c) Issues related to Islamic sales contracts
d) Islamic banking theories and practices
e) Legal and ethical issues in Islamic finance
f) Challenges of Islamic capital market application
g) Risk sharing awareness among market participants
h) Challenges and limitations in the implementation of Islamic financing
in capitalist environments
i) Zakat practice and development
j) Application of social finance apparatus such Waqf/Zakat/Sadaqah in
Islamic finance
k) Takaful operations
l) Emerging issues in Islamic finance
m) The efficiency of Islamic banking
n) Survey of stakeholders’ perspectives towards Islamic banking
4. The primary goal of this assignment is not merely to judge whether the article
written was good or bad. Rather, the objective of this assignment is to carefully
examine and possess grander comprehension of the educational research
complexities.
5. Students need to review the selected article in a concise manner, thoughtful
discussion of the main features of the study and raise important questions that
can generate better understanding related to the article.
6. Please refer to the guideline below in writing the article review.

GUIDELINES ON WRITING THE ARTICLE REVIEW
Minimum 15 pages including front page, table of contents,
bibliography/references.

Four (4) main sections in writing an article review:


1. Introduction
2. Content review/ summary
3. Critical review of the article
4. Conclusion

1.0 INTRODUCTION:

1. You are required to produce an introduction paragraph which elucidates the


background of the topic.

2.0 CONTENT REVIEW/ SUMMARY

This section requires the skills to analyse and identify the content/ essence of the
article. Among the important contents in an article are:
a) The purpose of the study
b) Research methods such as sampling, data collection methods, data analysis
c) Research findings
d) Practical implication of the study

3.0 CRITICAL REVIEW OF THE ARTICLE

You are required to make a critical review that is to express criticism, views and suggestions
to enhance the article. Among the aspects that can be included in this section are as follows:
a) The main issue(s) of the article.
b) Are the issues in this article interesting? State why.
c) Is the methodology used by the author appropriate?
d) Do you agree/disagree with the results of the study, why?
e) Have the research questions stated by the writer(s) been answered?

4.0 CONCLUSION

This section is a summary of your writing. Two (2) things that can be included in this
section are:
a) State if the findings/results of this article give you new knowledge.
b) What steps/strategies will you do to improve the study?
VIDEO PRESENTATION (15%)

1. Create a CREATIVE video presentation based on the article that you reviewed.
You may present in the form of forum, news, role play and other relevant forms.

3. The content of the presentation must not comprise the sensitivity issues such
as racism, gender, politics and religion. It also must not infringe copyright.

6. The duration of the presentation video lasts for 5-7 minutes only.
