Cultural Capital Border walls Homework

‘Border walls are necessary for a peaceful society’

I agree with this statement to the extent that we cannot just let any foreign group into our country
without any question, otherwise the economy and the employment structure would be affected
since the government would need to spend money on the foreigners coming in and consequently,
the amount of jobs would significantly decrease. However, Professor Emeritus of City & Regional
Planning Michael Dear says the reality is that a wall, no matter how “big,” how “beautiful” cannot be
an effective reinforcement method.” This is true in many ways, since people can easily just work
their ways around a physical wall and it will cause far more disputes and discordance than without a
wall present, it may even lead the rise to a surge of mayhem, and overall isn’t pragmatic in the
slightest.
Some of the problems are as follows: Because there is focus on keeping undocumented people out,
the ones that are staying currently (illegal immigrants) will not be identified and their problem is left
unresolved. Also, it isn’t realistic to say a wall can just keep people out especially in island nations as
there is a requirement for ship trade to flourish. This means that people can enter the UK by: small
boats, commercial shipping containers and commercial vehicles transported by land or Ferry.
As an immigrant myself, although unfortunately not an illegal one. I know the reasons people have
to leave and want to leave their own countries because of the benefit to their families and a vast
beacon of opportunity. Though, there is a large stigma on people coming in from outside and it leads
to an abundance of hateful acts to be committed. Nevertheless, that stigma is obsolete since, this
country wouldn’t be nowhere as culturally and ethnically diverse as it is now. Furthermore, London
is the most diverse city in the world.

I came to England on a plane flight with my mother when I was 2 years old, from Karachi to London.
My father already went 2 years before, and so we went to stay with him. My brothers aged 8 and 9
were born here and I love it in this country, because there is far more comfort and tranquility in life
because of the lack of strenuous struggles, compared to life back home. There is also, great
technological advancements that will likely last for many eons, well in terms of human standards not
the cosmos. Penultimately, this shapes my belief that towards other kinds of refugees the sympathy
of people within this country wasn’t displaced, but suddenly now towards the Ukrainian peoples’
situation people start caring.
Finally, I think that border walls are important to the extent that not just anyone can arrive, but we
must also help the countries that are in need to solve the root of the problem instead of paving way
for more issues.
