17 11 000 Removing and installing radiator

Important!
Danger of scalding!
Open cap on expansion tank only after engine has cooled
down.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

• Drain coolant.
• Remove fan cowl.

Note:
When removing the fan cowl, note the engine variant.

M50:
Disconnect plug connection on level sensor.

Air-conditioning system (A/C):

Disconnect plug connection on temperature switch.

 Disconnect upper water hose.
Installation:
Tightening torque 17 00 1AZ .

Disconnect lower water hose.

Installation:
Tightening torque 17 00 1AZ .

Disconnect expansion hose.

Automatic transmission:
Disconnect transmission fluid cooler lines.
Catch and dispose of escaping transmission fluid.
Installation:
Check and if necessary correct transmission fluid level.
Check connections for leaks.

 M41, M51:
If necessary, disconnect hoses on intercooler.

Release radiator mounting on left and right by pressind in catch

with a screwdriver.

Sectional view of radiator mount:

1. Screwdriver
2. Front trim
3. Retaining lug for radiator

Installation:
Attach retaining lugs to radiator on left and right and press
forcefully downwards.
Catch must be heard to engage several times.

 Installation:
Move the screwdriver below the lug of the radiator mount and
tighten the unit.

Lift radiator upwards (together with intercooler if applicable).

Installation:
Place radiator on supports.

Installation:
Note rubber mounts on left and right sides.
