Guía de Estudio: Segunda Condicional y Verbos Modales

La segunda condicional se forma con dos partes: una cláusula condicional con "if" y una cláusula
principal con "would" o "could".

1. Cláusula condicional ("if"):

• Esta parte describe la condición hipotética o imaginaria.

• Se usa "if" seguido del sujeto y el verbo en pasado simple.
• Ejemplo: If I had more time

2. Cláusula principal ("would" o "could"):

• Esta parte describe el resultado hipotético que ocurriría si la condición se

cumpliera.
• Se usa "would" o "could" seguido del sujeto y el verbo base.
• Ejemplo: I would travel around the world.

Estructura completa:

• If + sujeto + verbo en pasado simple, sujeto + would/could + verbo base.

• If I had more time, I would travel around the world.

Forma negativa:

• Cláusula condicional ("if"): Se usa "if" seguido del sujeto y el verbo en pasado simple en
negativo (didn’t + verbo base)

o Ejemplo: If I didn't have so much work

• Cláusula principal ("would" o "could"): Se usa "wouldn't" o "couldn't" seguido del sujeto y
el verbo base.

o Ejemplo: I wouldn't visit you more often.

Estructura negativa completa:

• If + sujeto + verbo en pasado simple negativo, sujeto + would/could + not + verbo base.

• If I didn't have so much work, I wouldn't visit you more often.

Uso del verbo "to be":

En inglés, se usa "were" para todas las personas en la segunda condicional

• If I were rich, I would buy a mansion.

• If she weren't tired, she would come to the party.

Could = podría

Should = debería

Would = terminación -ía al verbo

5. Traduce las siguientes oraciones

• Si tuviera mucho dinero, viajaría por todo el mundo.

6. Escoge el verbo modal correcto
