Dear Hiring Manager,

My Name is Leo Ji, I am currently in my second year of undergraduate studies, pursuing a Bachelor of Applied
Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto. Thank you for reviewing my application.

I am eager to develop my professional experience and excited about the Construction Inspection Engineering
Student position at WSP. I hope to work in construction management, being involved with both design and
construction phases of the project to guide their completion. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain
insights from industry professionals at an innovative organization and showcase my skills and capabilities.

I really hope to secure a position at WSP. Being recommended by WSP engineers, the opportunity to contribute
to the development of creative and sustainable engineering solutions align perfectly with my aspirations and
passion for making a meaningful difference in the field of civil engineering.

Thus far in my undergraduate career, I have developed essential technical and interpersonal skills through the
rigorous curriculum and projects at UofT. To highlight a few, I have acquired analytical skills for examining
materials and deformations, gained proficiency in utilizing engineering software such as AutoCAD, developed
computer programs, and refined my ability to collaborate within teams.

I have gained plenty of experience working in teams. Last year, I was the team lead of five students in an
engineering project design course. Together, we analyzed our client's problem to develop, prototype, and
present a feasible solution. I was responsible for managing communications within the team and client and
resolved conflicts stemming from differing proficiency levels within the group. I ensured all deadlines and
requirements were fulfilled by leveraging project management strategies. During this project, I used my
extensive experience with Microsoft Office applications by writing reports in Word, presentations in PowerPoint,
and analyzing data in Excel collected through prototyping. I created computer programs in Python to simulate
designs and streamline data acquisition, and AutoCAD software to generate models for prototyping purposes.
Our client was very pleased with our solution and professionalism, and we received a grade of A in the course.

My construction management courses have equipped me to review codes and standards for projects. Applying
NBCC regulations, I analyzed the construction project of a two-storey building. Additionally, I gained on-site
experience, recording observations and collecting data during the construction of an underground parking
garage at UofT’s St. George Campus. I am confident that my technical abilities have been sufficiently developed
for application in an industry context. Furthermore, I possess excellent communication skills, enabling me to
convey information clearly and concisely to a targeted audience, both verbally and in writing.

I quickly acquire software knowledge, skills, and develop effective workflows. My current level of experience
aligns perfectly with the requirements of this role, and I am confident in my ability to be a highly effective
member of WSP. You can be assured of the commitment to excellence that I will bring to this position.

Thank you again for considering my application. I am eager to contribute my skills to WSP and am enthusiastic
about the opportunity for further discussions.

Sincerely,
Leo Ji
