SIWES REPORT
INTRODUCTION
The student’s industrial work experience scheme [SIWES] is a mandatory training for all student’s
of higher institution of learning to put in practice the theoretical aspect of what they have learned
before graduation .The programmer is mainly designed to prepare student’s towards the challenges
SIWES was established in the year 1973/1974 and was introduced to acquaint student with the skills
of handing employers. The industrial training fund (ITF) solely founded the scheme during it
formation years. But as the financial involvement becomes unbearable to them, it withdraws from the
scheme in 1979 to both the national University commission (NUC) and the National Board for
Later the federal government in November 1984 inverted the management and implementation of the
SIWES programme to the ITF again, and it was effectively taken over by ITF in July 1985 with the
SIWES (Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme) is a scheme for the duration f sixteen weeks (
4 month) for polytechnics and twenty four weeks (6 months) for universities. It is usually done in the
first year (NDI) in the polytechnic and in the third year in the universities depending on the
institutions.
The effective management of student’s industrial Work Experience Scheme has been as a result of the

ROLES OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
Federal government being the major party in the establishment of SIWES, has ever since been

It is true that student industrial work experience scheme has been a tremendous help to
students and has recorded a great deal of man power development that led to the greater productivity

area of boosting the knowledge and working experience for every student that undergo this exercise

My experience during the past four month has indeed been stressful and challenging but I have in the
process become better in my field of study than before. I learnt a lot from the staff and other students

by making sure that they pay every student a visit before the end of the programme.
