Final Draw Procedure

The UEFA EURO 2012 final draw will take place at the Palace of Arts
Ukraine, locally referred to as ‘Palace Ukraina’, in Kyiv on Friday 2
December at 19:00 local time (18:00 CET). The event will determine
the group formation for the final round of the tournament in June
next year. In addition to revealing the match schedule, the official
ball for the tournament will also be unveiled during the ceremony.

For the first time in the history of the UEFA European Football
Championship, the final draw will take place on a Friday evening
instead of lunchtime on a Sunday, to give this important event even
greater media exposure.

Basic conditions
• 16 teams participate in the UEFA EURO 2012 final tournament. They will
be divided into four groups of four teams each (Groups A to D).
• The host associations are placed as top seeds: Poland as A1, Ukraine as D1.

Team rankings, pot allocations and allocation of positions

• The 14 teams involved in the draw are classified on the basis of the national
team coefficient rankings, for which their results in the following competi-
tions are used:
- UEFA EURO 2008 (qualifying competition and final tournament)
- FIFA World Cup 2010 (qualifying competition and final tournament) and
- UEFA EURO 2012 (qualifying competition).
• Spain, the reigning European champions are in Pot 1. The team with the
best coefficient will join Spain in Pot 1.

• The remaining 12 teams are allocated to the pots 2-4 according to their
coefficients.
• In order to determine the positions of the remaining 12 teams in their
respective groups, four additional pots will be used, containing 3 balls each:
- Pot a: balls A2, A3 and A4
- Pot b: balls B2, B3 and B4
- Pot c: balls C2, C3 and C4
- Pot d: balls D2, D3 and D4

Final Draw Procedure

1. The draw starts with Pot 1 in order to fill position one in groups B and C

A first ball is drawn from Pot 1 and the drawn team is placed in position
one in Group B. Then the second ball is drawn from Pot 1 and the drawn
team is placed in position one in Group C.

2. The draw continues with Pot 4, from which a team will be allocated to
each group consecutively, from Group A to Group D.

A first ball is drawn from Pot 4 and placed in Group A. In order to determine
the position of the drawn team within Group A, a ball is drawn from Pot a.
A second ball is drawn from Pot 4 and placed in Group B.

Once again, to determine the position of the team within Group B, a ball
is drawn from Pot b. The same procedure is repeated for Groups C and D
consecutively, until all balls from Pot 4 have been drawn and the teams
positioned in each group.

Once inside the Palace Ukraina, the accreditation will permit access to the
media centre (Level 6), including the screening room and media catering.

A supplementary accreditation device (SAD) is required for accessing the

Non-rights holders (NRH) will be permitted to bring cameras into the media
centre and the press conference / mixed zone. NRHs wishing to watch
the final draw ceremony inside the draw hall will be obliged to leave their
cameras in the NRH camera storage on Level 4. Cameras will be returned
upon departure from the ceremony.

Please Note:
A final draw media accreditation will not permit access to the UEFA press
conference at Olympic Stadium. The separate UEFA press conference media
accreditation can be collected at the Media Welcome desk at the stadium.

Media Operations - Infrastructure

Media Centre Screening room

Situated on Level 6, the media
centre has a total of 248 working
positions (208 media, 40 photo).
Each position will be equipped with
simple, efficient and free connec-
tivity either by a RJ-45 connection
or the wireless network. The media
centre will also offer the following
infrastructure and services:
• Media hospitality
(free food and beverages)
• Information (media releases,
press kits, media guide, etc.)
• Internet terminals
• Screening room
• Media–TV (media dedicated TV
channel that can be seen from
monitors within the media centre)
The screening room will be an area
of the media centre where media
can view the final draw ceremony
from 44 working positions.
At the conclusion of the ceremony,
the press conference / mixed zone
media opportunities will run simul-
taneously, one group will be allo-
cated to the projection screen, while
the remaining three group’s media
opportunities can be seen and heard
on the Media-TV group monitors
found within the media centre.

Mixed Zone
Situated on Level 5, directly outside
the media seating for the final
draw, the press conference / mixed
zone will be four separate areas
according to groups (D – UKR , C, B,
A – POL, from left to right).
Following the ceremony, a desig-
nated UEFA Media Officer and
volunteer holding a “lollipop” sign
to signify the specific group will
escort their respective coaches to
the podium for an official statement
and mixed zone opportunity. No
simultaneous interpretation will be
provided.
Within each group’s press confer-
ence / mixed zone area there will be
a 4 x 2 m camera platform and an
audio split box at each podium.
Photo Positions
There will be a range of photo oppor-
tunities for the day of the final draw.
Before the event, there will be a
dedicated area for all media to take
photos of the guest arrival.
In the auditorium, there will be 10
photo positions from a platform on
the near right side of the stage, 20
seats on the Draw Hall floor and 20
seats on the balcony. All photogra-
phers on the draw hall floor must be
in their assigned position by 18:30.
Photographers with seats must
remain seated for the duration of
the ceremony.
Immediately after the draw, there
will be a photo session on the
stage with each individual group’s
four coaches. Photographers must
remain in their assigned positions
until the guests and officials have
exited the draw hall. Photographers
will not be permitted into the press
conference / mixed zone.

(Football Administration and Management Environment).

basis. Accreditation and Media Booking guidelines will be available for the
Final Tournament as downloadable documents sent as links via the assigna-
tion e-mail sent to FAME users when the accreditation period starts.

All accreditation applicants inserting
their requests in FAME are informed
of and consent (by agreeing to the
Accreditation Terms and Conditions
and to the Privacy statement) to the
screening of their data by Polish and
Ukrainian authorities (if required).
All confirmations will clearly state
that the allocation of an accredita-
tion may be revoked in the event of
negative feedback from the authori-
ties. Accreditation Terms and Condi-
tions are ‘event’ specific and may be
printed directly from FAME by the
media representatives.
Media bookings for the quarter-
finals will open, via FAME, after the
final whistle of the first Match Day
3 matches. Media bookings for
the semi-finals will open after the
first match of the quarter-finals is
concluded. Media bookings for the

Media Information system (MIS)

The main platform for communicating

with the media for the UEFA EURO 2012
will be the Media Information System (MIS)
section of the media portal within FAME.

The MIS has been built to become a “one stop shop” for media content and
information for the tournament. Within the MIS, all accredited media will
be able to access relevant final draw and tournament information through
streaming video, audio and video archives, statistics, transcripts, releases and
news, resources, and the events calendar.

Media members will also be able to receive up to the minute operations infor-
mation via customisable SMS & e-mail subscription services, making the MIS
a unique platform for media to stay informed on the latest developments of
the final draw and tournament.
