 Combine two-word problems.
 Remove the question from the first problem.

of softdrinks at P34.75 each. How much did she spend in all? (First problem)
 She had P1,000. How much money was left after paying?
The hidden question is How much did she spend in all?

Discussion of the Lesson One of the steps in solving word problems is to solve for the solution following
the number sentence given.
EXAMPLE:
Rico saves P4.50 on Monday, P7.25 on Tuesday, P5.15 on Wednesday, P3.90
on Thursday, and P8.20 on Friday from his daily transportation allowance for 3
weeks. From these savings, he wants to buy a t-shirt which costs P195.00. How
much more must he save?
SOLUTION:
Number Sentence: P195.00 – [(P4.50 + P7.25 + P5.15 + P3.90 + P8.20) x 3] = n
Solve: P195.00 – [(P4.50 + P7.25 + P5.15 + P3.90 + P8.20) x 3] = n
P195.00 – [P29.00 x 3] = n
P195.00 – P87.00 = n
P108.00
So, the amount he must save is P108.00

C. Generalization What is the number sentence used in the problem?

D. Application Jodel bought 1.5 kg of pork at P230 a kilo, 4 packs of cheese for P25.50 and 3
packs of cookies at P50.50 each pack. He had P1,000. How much was left of his
money after paying?
