Let’s Warm Up! (5 minutes)

Copy Cat!
Copy the action flashed on the screen. After copying the
action the student will create a sentence based on each
action.

Example:

running - The boy is running fast.

Highlight the verb, and ask the student if they remember what
the verb is. Also, recall the noun.

Highlight the adverb used in a sentence and ask the student


about it.

example: slowly, fast, gracefully

Adverb - describe a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

Marion dances gracefully.
Alex finished his project last night.
Carmen’s dog is extremely cute.
We ate dinner outside.

Some adverbs end with -ly but they’re not all easy to spot.

Use the example sentence above and try to identify where is


the adverb of manner or what is an adverb of manner.

Adverb of Manner - tells how something happens

example:
Marion dances gracefully.
The dog messily ate his dinner.
I hurriedly handed in my test.

Read the following sentences. Which words are examples of


adverbs? (Hint: Some sentences have more than one adverb.)

1. Giraffes are very tall and have extremely long tongues.


2. They are fed daily and like fruits and vegetables.
3. They eat mostly Acacia leaves, munching them quickly
because they really like them.
4. They walk slowly and lazily, stretching their necks up to the
trees.
5. I can't wait to go to the zoo tomorrow and see the giraffes.

Adverb of Manner:
What is an adverb of manner?
- tells how something happens.
- tells how the action is done.

Examples:
He swims well.
He ran quickly.
She spoke softly.

Adverb of time - The adverb states the time of occurrence of


the action. It may give a sharp or rough idea about the time
of an action.

e.g., soon,late,today,tonight,early,tomorrow,yesterday,then,
now,etc.

Examples:
● I saw Sally today.

Adverb of place
- gives information about the place occurrence of an
action.

e.g., here,there,near,nearby,outside,bottom,top, ahead,


somewhere, beneath, etc.

Examples:
They came here.
Someone is talking outside.
He went downstairs.
He stood there.
Please come inside.
