Solutions

1. Power Outage

1.1 Smart Grid Technology:

Instead of today’s one-way power grid, we suggest two-way power and data communication
where renewable energy will be used (including turbines and solar energy). This will encourage
the local people to serve as producers so that the port has alternative energy sources during storm
surges by which the supply chain of the port will be less affected.

2. Shipping operations delay

2.1 Digital Twin Technology:

This will use real time data fed by sensors to model the virtual twin of the port, vessels, and all
its equipment so that supervision can be done remotely during storm surge. The employees will
be able to remotely control the equipment using the real-time virtual modeling of the port.

2.2 Automated Vessel Planning and Berth Assignments: Automation simplifies vessel
scheduling and resource allocation. Accurate berth assignments minimize errors and enhance
overall efficiency. Less time will be needed for manual decision making and documentation
ensuring smooth flow of cargo unloading onto its right platform. The technology will use Ai
predictive modelling algorithm to decide the vessel planning and berth assignment and direct the
ships accordingly.

As a result, the ship to truck journey will no longer need any on-spot decision making,
This will also result in Efficient utilization of equipment providing at least an 80% increase in
overall efficiency. (Solution 3.2)

3. Container congestions and backlogs:

3.1 High-Tech Port Monitoring: Solutions like Awake AI and Intel’s real-time monitoring use
machine learning models to detect container congestion in port yards, providing awareness of
utilization rates and cargo flows. Our solutions will use the latest-generation cargo and vessel
monitoring sensors from intel and supporting software from Microsoft from their Awake Ai
program to ensure reliable cargo shipping.
This will be the best solution in terms of port supply chain workers and logistics.
3.2 Container-to-Driver Assign: Automated driver assignment will ensure the smooth flow of
cargo handling from ships all the way to trucks; ensuring efficiency and less human involvement
during a storm surge. This will reduce the risk of employee injuries during storm surges as few
employees will be able to conduct all the necessary operations.
For high-tech port monitoring, we are planning to develop a sophisticated application that will
be able to assign Cargo Trucks and Drivers autonomously based on the data it receives from the
High-tech Port Monitoring Sensors.
This will result in lower congestion of cargo in the port yards and reduce the supply chain-related
irregularities in export-import.

In conclusion, by embracing technology and interdisciplinary collaboration, Chattogram Port can

significantly enhance its disaster preparedness. The proposed AI solutions address critical
challenges, allowing the port to mitigate supply chain disruptions caused by storm surges. As we
move forward, continuous improvement and regular maintenance will be essential to ensure the
resilience of Chattogram Port in the face of natural disasters.
