11 Data on two meteorologically h o m o g e n e o u s c a t c h m e n t s 1 a n d 2 are given b e l o w .


A 3-h unit hydrograph w a s developed for c a t c h m e n t 1 and w h i c h has a p e a k value of
discharge as 6 0 m / s a n d time to peak f r o m the beginning of e x c e s s rainfall as 12 h. It

12(b) In a 140 minutes s t o r m the following rates of rainfall w e r e o b s e r v e d in successive 20
minutes intervals: 3.0, 3.0, 9.0, 6.6, 1.2, 1.2, and 0.6 m m / hour. A s s u m i n g the
O - index value a s 3.0 m m / hour, d e t e r m i n e ; (i) Total value of surface runoff (ii) Total
rainfall and (iii) T h e value of w - index for the s t o r m . T h e area of catchment is
1500 ha.
