ENGLISH SKIT: THE SEDS OF SWATCH BHARAT

Narrator: (Voiceover) Sabarmati Ashram, 1925. Mahatma Gandhi, the


leader of India's freedom struggle, believed that cleanliness is next to
godliness. His dedication to sanitation was unwavering.

Gandhi: (To a group of young ashramites) Cleanliness is not just about


personal hygiene, but about respecting our environment and our fellow
beings. We must make cleanliness a habit.

Narrator: Gandhi visits a nearby village, where he sees heaps of garbage


and open defecation. The villagers look at him with curiosity and
respect.

Gandhi: (Addressing the villagers) Brothers and sisters, our


surroundings reflect our values. We must keep our homes and our
villages clean. It is not only for our health but for our dignity.

Villager 1: Bapu, we understand, but we lack the resources and


guidance.
Gandhi: (Smiling gently) We can start with what we have. Let us come
together and clean this village. I will join you in this effort.

Narrator: Gandhi, along with the villagers and ashramites, begins


cleaning the village. They collect garbage, dig compost pits, and educate
the children about the importance of sanitation.

Narrator: (Voiceover) Gandhi's actions inspired the villagers. The


cleanliness drive became a regular activity, and soon, neighbouring
villages began to follow suit.

Gandhi: (To the villagers) Remember, true independence starts with


self-reliance and self-respect. Cleanliness is the first step towards a
healthy and prosperous nation.

The scene transitions to 2014, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is


launching the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He is seen paying homage to
Mahatma Gandhi's statue.)

Narrator: (Voiceover) October 2, 2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi


launches the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, drawing inspiration from
Mahatma Gandhi's vision of cleanliness.
Modi: (Addressing the nation) Let us fulfill Bapu's dream of a clean
India. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is not just a campaign but a tribute to the
Father of the Nation.

Narrator: (Voiceover) The seeds of Swachh Bharat were sown by


Mahatma Gandhi, and today, they have blossomed into a nationwide
movement. Let us all pledge to keep our surroundings clean and honor
Bapu's legacy.

(The scene ends with Gandhi's quote displayed on the screen:
