TERASIL® W-EL disperse dyes

for polyester/elastane blends
Trouble-free processing and outstanding performance

Textile Competence
Facts about dyeing polyester/elastane (PES/EL) blends

With TERASIL W-EL you can process PES/EL safely and achieve very good wash fastness
properties – for outstanding performance and minimum elastane damage.

There is always a compromise between loss of elasticity and dyeing temperature.

Loss of elasticity

• The damage to elastane fiber in the jet is caused by the hydrofixation of the elastane fiber
in the streched condition.
• Higher dyeing temperatures result in higher elastane hydrofixation. Hydrofixation causes
irreversible loss of elasticity.

Dyeing temperature

• The most common dyeing temperature is 125°C/257°F. The absolute temperature limit is
130°C/266°F.

• All disperse dyes stain heavily EL fiber (no exception), resulting in poor wash and storage
fastness.

• Dyeing temperature of 135°C/275°F causes significant fiber damage.

With TERSASIL ® W-EL you do not have to compromise in processing

polyester/elastane blends.

Dyeing method

TERASIL ® W is a cost-effective range, giving very good wash fastness in ISO 105 C06 tests
(40°C/104°F, 50°C/122°F and 60°C/140°F), while TERASIL WW dyes give top wet fastness on all
substrates and in all tests including AATCC 61, 2A, 49°C/120°F (the standard test for US market).

Dyeing recipe Reduction clearing

0.5–1.0 g/l ALBAFLOW SF PLUS or UNI (penetration accelerant) 4–8 ml/l caustic soda 36° Bé/66° Tw
0.5–2.0 g/l UNIVADINE DPL (dispersant) 2 g/l soda ash
3.0 g/l ALBATEX AR (reduction inhibitor, as required) 4–6 g/l sodium hydrosulfite conc.*
1.0 g/l UNIVADINE NFL (leveling agent, as required)
3 g/l ERIOPON OS
0.0–2.5 g/l UNIVADINE PB (diffusion accelerant)* ––––––

hold 60 min at 125°C/257°F or 30 min at 130°C/266°F Depending on the fabric construction and
cooling down or HT drop deepth of shade, 2 reduction clearings
maybe necessary.

UNIVADINE ® PB, a diffusion accelerant, which ensures a good dyeing reproducibility and a faster
build up on difficult polyester fabrics such as microfibers, texturized PES yarn and high stretched
PES yarn and overcomes temperature variations in the dyeing machine. UNIVADINE PB hardly
affects the elastane fiber properties.

Reduction clearing

Disperse dyes in elastane are well protected against reduction clearing. It is therefore necessary to
remove the dye from the elastane fiber in order to destroy it in the reduction clearing bath. This
extraction can be achieved at 85–90°C/185–194°F with ERIOPON® OS.
The following illustration shows the dye remaining on elastane fiber after reduction clearing
performed at 70°C/158°F and 85°C/185°F with and without ERIOPON® OS. Only TERASIL W and
TERASIL WW dyes can be completely removed from the elastane fiber.
