Our traditional arts, handicrafts, fairs, festivals, dances, music, food and other art
forms make our country very unique. The student will become aware of the rich and
varied artistic traditions of our country through the Art Integrated Project.

Project Theme: Fairs and Festivals celebrated in the State
Activity 1: EVS (Scrap book on festivals)
Learning Outcomes:
The student will be able to
1. list a few religious and seasonal festivals [K]
2. know the importance of festivals [U]
3. describe any two festivals in detail [Ap]
4. create a beautiful scrap book on festivals [C]
Materials required:
1. scrapbook
2. coloured pictures of religious and seasonal festivals
3. glue
4. pencil/crayons
Procedure:
1. Select any one religious and one seasonal festival of the state you are learning
about.
2. Collect coloured pictures of the festivals and stick them in a scrap book and write
the following details:
● name of the festival
● when is it celebrated (month/season)
● how is it celebrated
● importance of the festival
3. Decorate your scrapbook pages if you wish to.

Activity 2: Math (measuring the toran made from 3 D shapes)
Learning Outcomes:
The student will be able to
1. create and decorate 3D shapes [C]
2. create a toran out of 3 D shapes [C]
3. measure the length of the toran [E]
Materials required:

1. 3D shapes of cubes, cuboids, sphere, cones and cylinders
2. water colours to colour the shapes
3. string to hang the shapes
4. decorations
Procedure:
1. View the video and make 3D shapes - cubes, cuboids, sphere, cones and
cylinders, at least 3 of each.
2. Colour the 3D shapes and decorate them if you wish to.
3. Hang the decorated 3D shapes from the string in a pattern and use them as a
toran.
4. Measure the length of the toran in cm using a ruler.

Activity 3: English (news reporter)
Learning Outcomes:
The student will be able to
1. report the way he/she will celebrate the festival of the chosen state [C]
Materials required:
1. a toy mike or any object looking like a mike
Procedure:
1. Student has to act as a news reporter.
2. Select any festival from Activity 1.
3. She/he has to report from her/his house how that festival will be celebrated at
his/her place.
4. Follow the steps given below:
● Introduce yourself (full name and the city you belong to).
● Introduce the topic (I am going to tell you live about how the festival of ______ is
being celebrated in my house.)
● Then begin with the preparations (shopping/cleaning/preparing food/inviting
guests/buying gifts).
● Then the actual celebrations.
● Safety measures taken by you and your family.

● Closure- how you enjoyed.
● Record the whole event and send it to the teacher.

Activity 4: Hindi (interviewing grandparents)
Learning Outcomes:
The student will be able to
1. understand how the way we celebrate festivals have changed over the years [U]
2. prepare at least 8 to 10 questions for the interview [C]
3. appreciate the differences he/she comes across [An]
Materials required:
1. interview questions
2. paper and pencil
3. mobile phone to record the interview
Procedure:
1. Interview your parents/grandparents to know more about festivals.
2. Ask them the differences they find in the way the festival is being celebrated:
● preparation
● dishes prepared
● clothes worn
● style of celebration
● number of people involved
● money spent

Activity 5: Computer Studies (electronic brochure)
Learning Outcomes:
The student will be able to
1. use a word processor to create an electronic brochure displaying information
about the fairs and festivals organised/ celebrated in the state (refer to the scrap
book prepared)

Materials required:
1. OpenOffice Writer
2. Internet

Procedure:
1. Search on the internet for information about fairs and festivals organised/
celebrated in the state.
2. Note down the information and save the suitable pictures/images.
3. Using it, create a brochure in OpenOffice Writer.
4. Add a minimum of two images of festivals in your document and position it
correctly with its description.
5. Save your document with a meaningful name.
