4th Session Assignment

A. Report what you learned from chapter 2 (at least 150 words)
From the chapter, I learned a number of lecture language that can help me recognize the
transitions happening in the lecture. From the audio that I have listened to, the lecturer
usually asks the students whether they have understood the topic or not before moving on
to the next topic which also helped me to figure out that the professor was going to discuss
a new topic. In addition, I also learned a little bit about business ethics, why it is important
and the impact of applying them in one’s business. Moreover, I learned to differentiate
between ‘corruptions’ and ‘fraud’ through the discussion of their definitions in last week’s
meeting. I used to get them mixed up beforehand. In terms of note-taking strategies, I
practiced on how to use abbreviations when I listened to the chapter’s audio track. Most of
the abbreviations that I used are the ones that I came up with, such as ‘comps’ for
‘company’ and ‘B.E.” for business ethics.

B. Report your Extensive Listening activities in the last 7 days (150 words)
Throughout the week, I have done several activities mostly involving listening while
viewing. I watched a number of Youtube videos and some English movies from my
mobile streaming service. Most of the videos that I watched are related to my own
interests, such as celebrities, videos about a childhood show I used to watch, and cooking
tutorials. I usually watch a 40 minute series when I have some free time. I also watch a
video on Youtube about the elements that make a language which was uploaded by TED-
ed (A channel that provides educational videos with wonderful animations). I did not
practice any listening only activities as I am more of the ‘visual’ type. I can understand
things a lot better if they are accompanied with images or videos.
C. Report your extensive reading in 100 words.
In the last week, I read a number of online news articles, journal articles, and I revisited a
chapter of a book that I have finished. The online news article that I read often talks about
the showbiz /Hollywood. Most of the journal articles that I read are related to my research
proposal which I am currently trying to assemble. I do not read the articles from front to
back, I usually read the parts which are relevant or can be used in the research proposal. I
also re-read one chapter of a book that I have finished reading. The book falls more into
the mental health category rather than academic.
