INFANT AND TODDLER EDUCATION PROGRAM

BACKGROUND:
● According to the Republic Act No. 10410 “An act recognizing the age from zero (0) to
eight (8) years as the first crucial stage of educational development and strengthening
the early childhood care and development system, appropriating funds therefore and
for other purposes.

● It is to achieve improved infant and child survival rates by ensuring that adequate
health and nutrition programs are accessible to young children and their parents from
the prenatal period throughout the early childhood years.

● It is to enforce the role of parents and other caregivers as the primary caregivers
and educators of their children especially from age zero (0) to four (4) years.

● Infants and Toddlers Education (ITED) Program is designed to cater children aged 0 to
2 years old.

● Child Development Teachers and Child Development Workers provide infants and
toddlers with a secure base for exploration, learning, and discovery through
learning experiences.

● Parents/Caregivers, who know children best and are responsible for their
optimum growth and development, implement these learning experiences.

ITED PRINCIPLES:
Family is the core of ITED
● Family relationships have more influence on a young child’s learning and
development than any other relationship he/she may have at this time.

ITED is grounded on relationships

● Positive relationships provide infants and toddlers with a secure emotional base,
a psychosocial need crucial to children in this stage of development.

BENEFITS:
● Since the family is the core of the ITED Program it ensures that the family stays
connected in supporting their child’s development. It also paves way for the
teachers, families, and the community they are in.

● One of the main highlights of the ITED Program is capacitating parents/caregivers in

the proper care of their child. This means that the program ensures that the parents
have access to information regarding developmentally appropriate parenting practices.

Facilitating Weekly Sessions in the ITED Program

● To start the program, orienting the parents sets the expectations between the Child
Development Teachers/Workers and the Parents/Caregivers, and to clarify the roles
and responsibilities in the program.
