2. DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTION

2-1. Diagnostic wiring diagram


The general wiring diagram shown in the below should be used as diagnostic
purpose.

• ECU is installed in the machine


• Diagnostic connector is arranged in the machine backside

2-2. Diagnostic Kit contents


The diagnostic Kit is composed of two sub items.

One end of this 3 meter long cable is connected to Diagnostic connector, the
other end to USB-RS232C serial converter.

•KIT SUB 2 : USB-RS232C serial converter


In case another product is available from local market, make sure of the
same configuration of RS232C male pin arrangement.

3. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
3-1. Provision of Software file
• Contact HDI service manager to get the following two files.

- APECS4800 Service Tool Software : 9927-1592-b.exe


 It is also downloadable from the website https://www.woodward.com
- USB-RS232C serial converter driver : USBCOM.zip
 If another brand converter is available, the driver file can be different.

3-2. APECS 4800 install


• Double-click “9927-1592-b.exe”.
• Click the button Accept, then it will automatically guide the rest installation.

• In the other hand, an executable shortcut will be created on the desktop.

3-3. USB-RS232C driver install


• Extract “USBCOM.zip” and move into the created folder “USBCOM”
• Double-click “CDM 2.04.16”

• Then, the following session will complete in seconds.

• To make sure the correct driver installation, connect USB-RS232C serial


converter to the PC.

• Go to Device Manager to check if USB Serial Port(COMX) is well registered.

4. SOFTWARE LOG-IN
4-1. Connection establishment
• Start the PC.
• Connect USB-RS232C serial converter to PC.
• Connect Deutsch-RS232C cable to USB-RS232C serial converter.
• Connect Deutsch-RS232C cable to diagnostic plug of ECU.
• Key ON to power supply of ECU in the equipment.
• Start APECS 4800 Service tool on the desktop.

4-2. LOG-IN

• In the entry screen, press the button to trace the Toolkit file at the location
C:\Program Files(x86)\Woodward\APECS 4800 Service Tool.
• Open the Toolkit file APECS4800. wtool.

• Press “Connect”
It will lead the following sub window ‘Select a network’.

- Network : Select “COMx”


- Baudrate : Select “Autodetection”
- Check “Always connect to my last selected network”
Then, Click the “Connect” at the bottom
• If the connection is well established, the message “Connected on COMx” reads
at the bottom.

4-3. Security Level & passwords


• In the following security Login window, two access levels are provided ;

Level 1 – Read Only – provides access to only to read only controls used to
monitor or troubleshoot system performance, with addition of access to clearing
faults history. Password is not needed, just press “Log in”

Level 3 – Full Access – provides access to all parameters in software tool, including
the reprogramming. Password is needed, contact the HDI manager responsible.

5. WORKING WITH TOOLKIT


5-1. Diagnostic pages
Faults can be diagnosed on four pages: Diagnostics 1/2/3/4.

5-2. Fault configuration

When there is a fault occurred,

Warning Lamps 1 - 4 are not used,


-. Active : flashed in red, indicating the fault is currently present.
-. Latched : flashed in red, to be cured by power latch (Key OFF and Key On)
-. Lamp : flashed in yellow, to be associated warning lamp.
-. Logged : flashed in yellow, indicating the fault has been cured and a historic.
To clear the logged fault, press “Clear All Faults”
-. Count : shows the number of faults occurrence including the current cycle.
For a historic fault, the Count is reset to zero by “Clear All Faults”

When there is a fault cleared,

NOTE > Refer to 6. TROUBLESHOOTING to solve the Faults being occurred.

5-4. Parameter trending & exporting


Each parameter in the software tool may be added to a temporary trend window.
• Do right-clicking the parameter to be monitored and select “Add to trend” option.
Then, a trend chart will appear and be ready for monitoring (trending)

• Press “Start” to begin the graphical monitoring.

• Press “Stop ” to end the graphical monitoring.


• To save the data between Start-Stop duration, Click “Export”

• The data will be saved as a file with html extension for later use.

6. REPROGRAMMING
6-1. Prerequisite for reprogramming
• Level 3 – Full Access, Refer to 4-3. Security Level & passwords
• OFFSET value. Move to Engine load control to take note of it.
• Map file having “.wset” extension, to be given by HDI manager.

6-2. Reprogramming steps


Step 1> Login the program with Level 3 – Full Access.

Step 2> Move to Engine Load Control, and take note of OFFSET value,
which is the factory set value, varies by individual Engine.

Step 3> Menu : Settings -> Load Settings File to Device, and browse and open the
Map file (*.wset)

- Click “Next” to initiate the reprogramming.

- Reprogramming is in progress

- Reprogramming is complete

Step 4> Return to Engine Load control to see OFFSET value has been reset to 0 after reprogramming.
This value should be changed to Factory set value. (for example 2.0)

- Type in the original OFFSET value (for example : 2.0) and press Enter
