I.OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard 1. the formation of the universe and the solar system
2. the subsystems (geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere) that make up the Earth
3. the Earth’s internal structure
Performance Standard Conduct a survey to assess the possible geologic/ hydro meteorological hazards that your community
may experience.
Learning Competency
Identify common rock-forming minerals using their physical and chemical properties.
based on MELCs:
Learning Objectives: At the end of this lesson, the students are expected to:
Identify the rock forming minerals
Differentiate physical and chemical properties of minerals
Appreciate the value of minerals in daily lives

6. Review
B. Activity
2
2. There will be presented image in which the students will be going to describe the rocks presented to them.
4. The students will be given 2 minutes to analyze the different rocks presented afterwards the teacher will ask
them questions.
5. After which, the teacher will call random students to answer the probing questions related to the activity that has
been done.
3
1. The students will answer the following questions:
D. Abstraction
1. The teacher will conduct an interactive discussion on the lesson about the Rock forming Minerals by answering
this activity.
2. They will be having a group activity for this task.
3. After, the activity the teacher will present the physical properties of minerals.
4
3. Then, the teacher will give additional information about the difference of physical and chemical properties of
minerals.
E. Application
1. The class will be divided into two groups then the will be going to differentiate chemical and physical properties
of minerals through a Venn diagram.
5
F. Generalization
What is mineral?
What is the connection between rocks and mineral?
What is the difference between physical and chemical properties of minerals?
How important mineral in our daily lives is?
1. Pyrite is a yellowish mineral that looks like gold and is commonly called fool’s gold. What is the property of mineral
exhibited by pyrite wherein it reflects light and with metallic look?
A. Color B. Hardness C. Luster D. Streak
2. Quartz can break other than along planes of cleavage. What is the property of mineral that show this characteristic?
A. Cleavage B. Fracture C. Hardness D. Tenacity
3. Some minerals like mica has surfaces with planes of weak bonds in the crystals. Thus, its crystals can be peeled like
layers of onion. What is the property exhibited by mica?
A. Cleavage B. Fracture C. Hardness D. Tenacity
4. Which property refers to the resistance of mineral to scratching?
A. Cleavage B. Fracture C. Hardness D. Luster
5. What are the building blocks of rocks and it is mostly found in the geosphere?
A. minerals B. soil C. ore D. elements
