WORKSHEET – SETS AND RELATIONS & FUNCTIONS

1. Write the set A = {1,4,9,16,25…….. } in set builder form.
2. Write down all subsets of set C = {1,3}
3. Let A = {1,2,3,4,6}. Let R be the relation on A defined by R = {(a, b): a, b 𝜖 A, b is exactly
divisible by a}. Write R in roster form. Find domain and range of R.
4. Let P be the set of prime numbers and let S={t:2t −1 is a prime }. Prove that S ⊂ P.
5. Find the domain and range of the following real function: F(x) = √9 − 𝑥 2
6. Let F = {(1,1), (2,3), (0, -1), (-1, -3)} be a function from Z to Z defined by f(x)
= ax + b, for some integers a, b. Determine a, b.

7. Find the domain and the range of the real function f(x) = √(5 − x)

8. Write the compliment of the given set A= {x: x is positive multiple of 3, x ∈N}.

9. Let V={a, e, i, o, u } and B={a, i, k, u } . Find V-B and B-V.

10. In the following question, a statement of Assertion (A) is followed by a

statement of Reason (R). Choose the correct answer out of the following
choices.

(a) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct explanation of
(A).

(b) Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is not the correct explanation
of (A).

(c) (A) is true but (R) is false.

(d) (A) is false but (R) is true.

ASSERTION (A): If (x + 1, y – 2) = (3, 1), then x = 2 and y = 3

REASON (R) : Two ordered pairs are equal iff their corresponding elements are
equal.
