How to service 1.1

How to service

Delivery and setting-up

A back-up suitcase holds all necessary electrical modules for frontline
repair in e.g. the customer’s home.
Exterior parts must be brought with you separately, if they are to be
replaced in the customer’s home.

The static-protective field kit must always be used when the product is
disassembled or modules are being handled.

When the back-up suitcase and all other necessary part(s) have
arrived, the visit to the customer’s home can be arranged.

Installation and presetting

Only the FM stations in the area will be tuned in and stored. During
this process operate always with the antenna up for best reception.
The product has a display for easy setup and operation.
The product type number can be changed if necessary only by
replacing the FM tuner module, which is the reason for the EU, US
and JPN variant.
The product has three separate type numbers for covering all markets
due to mainly country approvals. The product includes a mains wire, a
mains adapter and a wall bracket.

The FM frequency coverage is determined on the type number of the

approval label. EU and US covers 87.5 - 108MHz and JPN 76 - 90MHz.
The Switch Mode Power Supply following the product has automatic
adaptation to mains voltage (100 - 240V AC) and frequency (50 or
60Hz). The FM tuning and the SD card playback can be used directly
via the close-up keyboard buttons.

Electronics
All service repairs will be on module level by means of using a back-up
suitcase. This means that it becomes very simple to perform service,
even in the customer’s home. This Service Manual, enclosed with the
back-up suitcase, will in simple english terms describe how to fault
find and how to handle the module exchange (for other languages
see the Retail System).

Mechanics
All Exterior parts as e.g. the keyboard panel can be changed on-site.
All surfaces can be cleaned with a mild detergent.
Internal parts are supplied as service kits, e.g. the loudspeaker.
Descriptions of where to e.g. grease are described in the Service
Manual.

Software
There is no PIN code protection in this product.
The application software for the product can be updated by placing
the hex-file from the Retail System on a SD-card (follow the
instructions in this Service Manual), or by replacing the µP PCB.

Fault Finding
As there is only three electrical modules in the product a faulty module
is easy to point out in most cases. The PCB's has been divided into the
functionalities: FM tuner, SD slot/Power supply and finally
microcomputer/display.
1.2 How to service

Set-up
FM stations must be programmed again after replacement of the
microcomputer module.

No special service programmes is available in the product or via the

Service Tool as the product has been kept very simple.

All repairs can be made with standard tools as torx screwdrivers and a
multimeter.

Handling

Static electricity

A static-protective field service kit must always be used when the

product is disassembled or modules are being handled.

Transport
Use the product cover 3375489 when transporting the radio!

Caution

Power Supply

Warning

Static electricity may destroy the product!

A static-protective field service kit must always be used when

replacement of the modules takes place.

2.2 Adjustments

Service mode displays

Press GO to reach the next information items in the following order:

The service mode begins with display of:

Firmware version (4 digits)
Serial number of the set (8 digits)
Battery charging count (4 digits)
Battery low cut-offs count (4 digits)
Antenna up/down movements count (8 digits)
After the last item, the ---- separator is displayed.
With next GO press the display sequence starts from the beginning.

Read service counters

Antenna 0-65535 The number of antenna
times operations

Read serial number

8-digit serial number of the set. If the number equals to 0, the serial
number was either not written, or has been corrupted.

For example:
Serial number = 12345678.

Display:
1234
after 3 sec.
5678
after 6 sec.
1234
Etc.

For the antenna movements counter display the same principle is

used.

Read firmware version

This is the release code of the control firmware running in the
microcontroller of the set. The 4-digit code is defined as ywwd, where:

y = last digit of calendar year

ww = calendar week of the year
d = serial number of day in the week (1 = Monday)

For example:
Firmware version = 5381
th
specifies that it was released on Monday of 38 week in 2005.
Adjustments 2.3
